Help take care of rescue dogs on Union Island, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

  Description

  Our beloved caretaker is no longer available to be on-site to care for our dogs. She has been caring for these dogs for the past 13 years.

  We are now in urgent need of volunteers to help feed, care and spend time with our 12 friendly, rescued dogs at our shelter while living on the premises. 

  These beautiful souls were saved from dire situations they would not have survived - they now depend on us for love, safety, and stability.
  We are the only Animal Charity on Union Island. We regularly treat and help persons care for the island animals.
  Volunteer Vets regularly come for Spay & Neuter Clinics so that we can control the population of unwanted cats and dogs and keep them healthy.
  When we do have Vets, clinic days take place on site (where you will be living) and we would need your help to assist during clinic days.
  
  LOOKING FOR A COUPLE or TWO FRIENDS preferably - one small room to share.
  
  We need YOU if you have:
  ✅ Experience working with multiple dogs (especially 10+)
 and love animals !
  ✅ A calm and caring presence
/animals like being around you
  ✅ Time and commitment to spend with the dogs so they don’t feel alone - lots of time off to explore too.
  ✅ A willingness to live and work in slightly challenging conditions – the island is still recovering from severe hurricane damage since July 2024.
  ✅ If you’re an experienced Vet with a background in working in 3rd world countries with limited resources, even better.
  ✅ Carpentry Skills to help build things to improve our facility
  ✅ Photography & Social Media Skills is a plus not a must
  
  
  YOUR task is to:
  - Feed the dogs every morning & ensure they have clean water at all times
  - Spending time with them, petting, playing, walking them from time to time
  - Scooping up dog poop & disposing it
  - Keeping the Property and Garden clean and organised (there will be helpers too)
  - Assist where and when needed when we have visiting Vets (spays & neuters)
  - Help with Painting & Maintaining the property
  - Help with building things (if you have carpentry skills etc)
  - Help with gardening
  - Keep the home clean
  - Give medicine when/if animals need (we would give clear instructions)
  - Deworm & Treat Dogs for Fleas & Ticks periodically, around the island
  - Document animals that have been treated with photographs
  - Bathe dogs when necessary (rare)
  
  Whether you can help for a few weeks, or longer — your time will make a huge difference !!
  2 weeks or more only. Less time makes little sense for us & our animals.

  This is a great way to visit and live in the Caribbean for free !
  We had a major hurricane wipe us out in July 2024, and we are still very much in recovery, so this is an experience of a lifetime, to be able to experience the build back after such a devastating natural disaster.
  It's very expensive to live and rent here, so this is a perfect opportunity ! You can easily explore neighbouring islands by taking boats and doing day trips.
  This is a dream for any animal lovers....and the animals will be so grateful for som extra love.

  Feeding and taking care of the animals on site. Making sure they always have clean water.
  Ensuring that the property is kept clean. It's your responsibility to keep your space tidy.
  From time to time, there will be gardeners coming in to help with maintenance.

  Accommodation

  This is a small house located in the heart of Clifton. It has a well equipped kitchen. Hot shower (Luxury!)
  Bedroom has a bunk bed.
  Beaches are only a short walk away.
  Weekends can get noisy with loud music etc. If you can't beat it, join it !
  
  I will supply you with basic food necessities and water/juices. Just let me know your dietary requirements.
  I will not provide any Meat but you’re welcome to purchase your own nearby if you wish. Various small supermarkets nearby.

  What else ...

  As we got hit by a Hurricane 2 years ago, this would be more for persons looking to relax and enjoy the island life and its' beautiful beaches. You can visit nearby islands by boat. Lots of nice hiking. If you're into running, it's great for that too. There is not much going on, as the island is a work in progress but there are a few restaurants and various takeaway spots. If you're someone that can work on your laptop, we have good wifi available.
  
  I will need you to be available to stay for 2 weeks Minimum.
  I am looking for easy-going, chilled and responsible persons to take care of the property and rescues. Safe for female solo travellers too !
  
  *During your stay, you can not invite, or allow anyone in the property at any given time.
  *NO SMOKING in the property.
  *BE CAREFUL WITH THE USE OF WATER as we only depend on rain, and it doesn't rain much here. Now is our rainy season so we hope to get lots of water !
