We Live in a large rambling Queen Ann house in Shropshire near the historic town of Ludlow. We have an enormous and very beautiful garden which we were told was designed by the Edwardian gardener Gertrude Jekyll. Within the grounds of the property are a number of out-buildings as well as a cottage, a pretty brook, a wooded area, a large crumbling Edwardian green house partly taken over by nature, a tennis court and a large paddock where we have two miniature Shetland ponies. We also have two very friendly dogs, a cat and chickens that roam freely around the garden and supply us with daily fresh eggs.
The garden and the house are an amazing environment to work and we spend most of our time in the spring and summer months working in the garden and painting and decorating in the house when the weather is bad. We feel very priviledged to be living in such a wonderful place and it is a joy to work in such a beautiful environment. We are both artists and I also teach art. We love hosting workaways and very much enjoy the cultural exchange.

The house and garden are very idyllic and we believe an inspiring place to work. Travellers could learn about gardening in a very special garden with a lot of rare plants and trees. We very much enjoy working with workaway volunteers and we want them to enjoy their time with us as well as finding the work rewarding. Whether it is planting or weeding n the fruit and vegetable area or another area within the garden, we want our volunteers to have a great experience and find the work rewarding and interesting. Our vegetable and fruit area within the garden suplies us with fruit and vegetables which we use within our cooking. We love sharing recipes and cooking with workaways as well as learning about food from other cultures.
The house is very old and full of character. On rainy days and during the colder months we are wanting help with painting and decorating and volunteers could gain experience in this area. My partner is fairly experienced in painting and decorating and I very much enjoy styling and interior design. We rent out our house for location shoots for fashion, PR, advertising and film and TV and this can be interesting for workaway volunteers to observe. Last year, we had a fashion shoot in the garden with large snow machines making the place into a winter wonderland!
The historic town of Ludlow is approximately 4 miles away and is famous for fantastic food as well as the historical architecture. There are many wonderful places to walk for those keen on walking. There are many beautiful places to swim and enjoy a picnic.
Within our grounds, workaways can play tennis, table tennis, babmington and croquet. We also have tons of board games within the house for any keen board game player. There are bicycles for all to use and it is such a pretty area to cycle and explore.
We would like help with predominately gardening and decorating in our home.
The house is very large. There are many bedrooms, bathrooms and sitting rooms. There is also the separate cottage which we plan to do up.
Ludlow is approximately 4 miles away and has many cafes, vintage shops and wonderful historical architecture. It is famous for its food festival and there is a daily market in the ancient square which sells wonderful local produce. Shropshire is very beautiful with quaint villages and unspoilt countryside to walk in and pretty rivers to swim in. In the house we have art studios with plenty of materials where volunteers can create their own work in their time off if they would like to do so. We have a tennis court, table tennis, badminton, a brook to paddle in and plenty of space in the house and garden to relax.
