Help
No experience is particularly required, though we are looking particularly for creatives and volunteers happy to do quite physical labour and are happy to learn. People with natural construction experience, carpenters and other practical skills are a plus. We are also mostly Permaculture enthusiasts and designers and work along these principles to create kitchen gardens and common spaces.
An exciting opportunity to volunteer in the creation of a wellness retreat and arts center has arrived, located in the island of Funzi in Ukunda, South Coast of Kenya near the Tanzania border. Here you will take part in daily farm work which includes tending to both livestock and the food gardens. Superadobe/earthbag building and other natural building techniques will also be used in building an outdoor kitchen and keyhole gardens. We will also be doing a Rocket stove and oven in this building building. We are also building a vermicomposting toilet and shower building just to name a few activities. The site is located in the wild, scenic Northern beach of Funzi Island, near the Tanzania border. We have a private beach on one end of the 11 acre private property and there is also presence of wildlife and resident rare birds. Volunteers will also help with every stage of the build from design to implementation and furniture making.Languages

There is tent space available on the fenced grounds and *️️️️️volunteers are requested to come with tents and bedding*️️️️️ . We will be using composting toilets and water and toiletries will be provided. All food and cooking are shared amongst the volunteers on a daily basis and we request all volunteers to contribute to the food shopping expenses wherever possible.
What else ...
Volunteers will be expected to arrange their own transport to the island. You can take a bus from the likoni ferry to Ukunda, specifically to Msambweni where you can ask to drop off at Milalani just outside the island. 200Ksh or 2USD approx 2hr with traffic. It will cost roughly KSH200 by motorbike to get to the site from the main road, and details will be communicated.
