    Description

Welcome to El Hierro, the smallest of the Canarian islands. I invite workawayers to stay and work on my ecological farmland, situated on the north coast of the island, at 350 meters hight, where it can be cold and damp during the winter nights. This is an old traditional farm where the ancestors worked a lot with cleaning the soil and making lava stone walls for protection of their crops. So far I have cleaned away bushes and planted one hectar with 250 new fruit trees and vegetables that are ready to eat all year around. On this level there are no natural trees anymore, so reforestation is also interesting. Here I live a peaceful and healing life in a tiny wooden cottage. I don't use electricity since I am a burned out filmmaker who got sensitive to electromagnetic fields and radiation. Nevertheless I now have a solar kit with 220 volts and car batteries for 12 volts. There is mobile signal / 3 G and 4 G on some parts of the land.

You will hopefully find peace thanks to living in nature and working with the soil, plants, lava stones in a silent, beautiful landscape with full view over the Ocean. The word "stress" doesn't exist here.

You would learn about ecological farming (permaculture, biodynamic) with the focus on working the soil, seeding, planting, building/planting wind shields, cutting weeds, transplanting, fertilization, mulching, regeneration of the soil, natural pesticides and collecting seeds for my seed bank. I am not an expert though...I learn a little bit here and there along with my life and do the trial and error method, and studying the plants and the soil and it's inhabitants...

If you want to learn or practice languages, I speak fluent Spanish, French, English (with a background as a translator and teacher) and Swedish which is my mother tongue.

On my "magic mystery land" I want more schamanism, yoga, dancing and meditation to rise both our energy and the land's natural (and spiritual) energies. I can also share time for small film projects or for writing scripts.

    Help

I am grateful for receiving people with initiative and knowledge about garden work/ecological farming/plants/herbs/fruittrees and / or building of cottages/sheds of wood/stone/other materials. Also restoration of old stone ruins. And good if someone knows about solar cells technology and electricity.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Depending on the numbers of people staying. One or two persons can stay in a small wooden tipi, otherwise in tents. Outdoor dry toilet, outdoor kitchen, outdoor shower. Only cold water so far. Now recently there is a gas heater for a second out door shower/bath. Simple camping life...but very cosy and nice...according to my Workawayers and visitors so far... During the winter nights It can be cold and damp on this north coast so please bring a good winter sleeping bag and warm clothes, bonnet and shoes.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Most people who visit El Hierro come for the nature experience, to walk/hike/trek/bike or to swim, snorkle or fly parapente. It's a small island and you drive to the other end of the island within less than two hours. There are regular buses between the villages. From my land it's about one-two kilometres uphill to the closest village with transport and shops. You would also be able to lend one of my two cars.

Small space up by the road at the entrance parking. And one space inside the farm. Nevertheless it might be a challenge when leaving the farm to drive uphill to the exit. This could though be solved with help from a friend's tractor of 4 wheel driven car.
