    Description

    HI!
We're a family of four (five if you count our new puppy!) who are in the very lucky position to have a rural home in the middle of France. Our family consists of Malu (she/her) who has lived in London and Utrecht and has just finished a course in permaculture. Petter (he/him) works in IT and is a great chef who loves to eat things from the garden. Aad (she/her) is almost 9 and an inquisitive little builder, her big dream is to build a treehouse in the garden of the house. Elle (she/her) has just turned 7 and is a very thoughtful little kid who loves to make mischief and have big conversations with people. The last member is our puppy Jopie (born in oktober 2025) who still has a lot to learn but is the cutest little teddy bear.

The house used to be the village cafe and has kept a lot of it's charm, the views are amazing and even though the closest town is only 5 mins away by car you really feel like your in the country. We love the space and how incredibly spacious it feels!
Because the home was abandoned for a few years the garden has been overrun with brambles and other wildness. Although we absolutely love the nature reclaiming a little of our garden, we would also love to have a little use of it!

    We're LGBTQ+ and Neurodivergent friendly :)

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We're all born in the Netherlands but speak English fluently. Petter also speaks French fluently, so all of these languages would be available to you to learn or improve. The girls already speak English quite well, but it would be great for them to improve. Malu is looking to improve her French.

As mentioned before, we'll share our gardening and permaculture knowledge.

As a family we love our board game so during a workaway stay we host at least one board game night (we could even make it a DnD night if there are enough people interested). We also really like watching movies, so a movie night is also definitely something we'll organise.

  • Help

    Help

We'd mainly like help with the garden, because Malu has a diploma in Permaculture she will share her knowledge about plants and how to design a garden that's sustainable and futureproof. If the weather is very bad we'd like some help with some paint help of maybe other small DIY around the house. It would also be very much appreciated if you like spending time with kids and/or dogs. The girls are very friendly and would love to meet new people.

    Accommodation

We'll be using two of the bedrooms, but we'll have space for 4-6 people depending of some of the guests are couples. One room is a shared room with two separate beds, please let us know it that would be a problem for you.

We'll provide three meals a day. We're use to eating 2 cold meals a day (yoghurt or bread for breakfast and bread again for lunch) and a warm meal in the evening. If it's appreciated we could also make some soup for lunch :) Please also let us know any dietary restrictions, we're vegetarian friendly.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

As we said before, the local area is very rural. That means it's great for walking in the woods nearby and there's a bus to Montlucon a few times a day. We'd be very willing to bring you to a trainstation in Commentry or Montlucon so you could take a train to visit some other sites (like Vichy of Clairmont-Ferrand).
