  • Description

We are establishing an eco village for all age groups called Ahi Wai Eco Neighbourhood in central Whangarei. In Feb 2020 the project was granted resource consent. We are well traveled and used to hosting people from overseas and plan to begin construction in 2021. Our philosophy is one of caring for this planet and supporting each other through social, cultural and environmental awareness. Our cohousing community is based on the well established Danish model of cohousing and "Earthsong" eco vllage cohousing community in Auckland. We are committed to creating an inter generational community that puts people first. Shaun and Carmel are currently overseeing this project. Shaun is a teacher and Carmel a nurse educator. Ahi Wai is a 2 acre site in central Whangarei just a short walk to all amenities. Because we both have almost full time jobs as well as administering this project, we would really appreciate assistance with many jobs both indoor and outdoors.

    What else ...

Whangarei has a range of things to see and do and as we are right in the city we are within walking distance for most things. There are great walking trails in Mair Park just a few minutes walk away. Theatre, movies, art galleries and other social events are abundant. We have a couple of old bicycles you are welcome to use as live right by a new shared bicycle / walk track . We envisage that we would have a mutually respectful relationship with you. We would expect helpers to stay with us for a minimum of 5 nights to make this relationship work. Whangarei is an early to rise place. Generally helpers should expect to help us in the mornings with the afternoons free.
