Description
We live on a 3000m2 property in Barrydale which is in the Little Karoo in the Western Cape province of South Africa, about 250km East of Cape Town. Its a small town, mainly focused on farming and tourism. There are mountains surrounding the town, with amazing hikes and swimming holes. There is a large garden where we grow vegetables. Workaways might be asked to help with planting, weeding, watering or making compost.
There are different options for accommodation for workaways, ranging from a caravan to a cottage, depending on what is available. Both of these have a kitchen, gas shower and composting toilet.
There are 2 self-catering units on the property where I host paying guests, and I may ask you to help to clean rooms or get involved with painting, decorating or maintenance work. One of the units has a dry, waterless composting toilet which will also need to be cleaned by the workawayers.
I sometimes host groups and run retreats, and there may be an opportunity for workaways to help out or even to facilitate... which would be remunerated.
As far as meals go, I am happy to provide one meal per day in exchange for 3 to 5 hours of work. The Workawayer will be expected to assist with cooking though, with meal preparing counting as work!
I am a tour guide and can give you lots of ideas for things to do and places to go before, during or after your stay. I might be able to give you a lift from and to Cape Town.
I have a partner named Tim who is always keen to go on epic cycling trips, if you're keen, and 2 lovely dogs. Sometimes you might be asked to look after the dogs if we need to go away for a few days.
We love meeting new people and exchanging ideas and interesting conversations. Barrydale has some fascinating inhabitants, and offers yoga, meditation, live music, markets, sweat lodges, plant medicine journeys, photographic and art exhibitions, an organic deli, and some very good restaurants.

Accommodation
Comfortable caravan in a beautiful garden., or a cottage. Ablutions might need to be shared, depending on bookings.
I would not be able to provide all your food, but am happy to share some meals and you are welcome to pick fresh produce from the garden and cater for yourself. There is a well stocked supermarket 150 metres from my property, plus several restaurants within walking distance. The accommodation options on the property are all self-catering with well equipped kitchens, so you can prepare your own food.
