First week we simply spend teaching you what to do and how to do.
See further information below under "Help"
The reindeer station in South Greenland, is a working ranch with mix of ranching and holiday operation, famous for the out of doors activities, sunny days (last summer we had 100 sunny days rivers and lakes full of arctic char and reindeer on the range.
Summertime the station gets full of life with youth from all over the world, Isortoq Is a good place to practice your work skills and make new friends across borders.
The station is 1.600 km2/400.000 Acres in some of Greenland amazing nature:
There are many things to see and do such as fishing rivers and countless lakes filled with trout,
-Visit Fjords with icebergs, seal, fish and birds (eagles and falcons...)
- Reindeer, arctic fox, arctic hare.
-Walks on biggest glaciers in the world.
There are no roads and the only way to travel is by boat or by a helicopter.
An isolated small village Qassimiut is 47 km away and Qaqortoq, the biggest town in South Greenland is 108 km away and the airport in Narsarsuaq is 150 km away.
On the farm we have power generator, that we use when needed, we are also in the process of installing solar-cells for lights and other light utilities.
In Greenland we eat protein based foods like reindeer meat, sheep, and fish like arctic char, cod, we supplement this food with rice, barley and potatoes and frozen vegetables. If you have specific dietary requirements, we advise you to apply at another location.Types of help and learning opportunities

Traveler will learn where food comes from, like fish and meat, since we are a prime producer, you do things from catching the fish gutting and cleaning it and preparing it for dinner. Same with the meat,. Our food is very healthy and can measure easily with the best cuisines healthy oriented in any western City, even better.
It depends a lot on the season and particular summer, what we are mostly working on.
Some summers we are engaged in maintenance of buildings, and fences.
Some people learn basic welding.
And how to keep hygienic around the house and processing foodHelp
Season 2024summer
We need English teachers perhaps someone retired. Teaching is 2 x40 minutes a day. Or whatever you see fit.
We need young people from the vocular colleges who have been studying carpentry plumbing scivil engineering metallurgy agriculture,.
Forestry. People who have tried to work in construction,.
We are always fixing fences building and repairing cabins.
Painting houses and related jobs.
We are in the process of re-modeling the Station into a more tourism cam operation with reindeer involved as a part of the experience. A lot of work is to be done in reorganising construction materials stacking them away.
The tasks you would be doing is mainly three types during June/July/August/September:
-Putting up new fences and fixing old ones during June/July
-Herding reindeer during July/August.
-Late August, early September we tag our reindeer and we have our slaughtering season.
-Other help could include various maintenance tasks like painting and DIY
-babysitting, taking care of child if mother is busy
Most help for the next summers will be To create a foundation for a good life experience at the station.
One of our simple tasks is to check our nets for example,. and learn how to filet salt and smoke the fish. and conserve it in a freezer. It is also important for the workawayer simply to be there and enjoy life in nature far away from the beaten track.
The above mix of help can change from the above schedule.
We start early around 7:30 with breakfast and the normal working day. There will be days off when you will be travelling to the different areas or go out fishing. We often plan our activities with the weather.
You need to be fit to walk few km a day (during herding) and be able to carry 8 kg fence posts and work with hammer weighing 20 kg (for two persons i.e. 10 kg per person).
You would need to have good walking shoes and good outdoor clothes. Similar as one would use in october weather, even if summers are nice and warm weather can change quickly and also during boat travel it can get cold out on the water. Ideally you would have your own sleeping bag, but if you have none we can supply it.
You must be able to go well in a team be happy, and well balanced mentally.
You also have to be hygienic
What bring:
Trail running shoes.
Rubber boots.
Wind-proof cloths and gloves.
Thick socks.
Sun screen sun glasses.Languages spoken

When on the station, we have basic housing with bed, showers etc.
But during herding/hunting you would either be staying in a tent or a small hut out in the nature.
We provide basic food like potatoes, rice, spaghetti and bread, and we take in reindeer and fish trout and cod to eat. we love different styles.
Freyja does the cooking most.
Bear in mind that the next store is not around the corner. What else ...
