    Description

We're English , but moved to Spain 5 years ago to follow our dream! We´ve always wanted a large farmhouse with land & that's now what we have! We are located 30 minutes inland from Alicante, are surrounded by mountains, whilst only a couple of Km from the local town. Although not very big, there are a reasonable number of shops, bars and restaurants, plus a market on Mondays.
We have amazing views in every direction! Further information on the area is given below.
Within the house, so far we have modernised the bedrooms, the kitchen & some of the living areas. We are working with local tradespeople to finish the remaining areas, whilst also slowly bringing the extensive gardens back to life, especially growing fruit and vegetables.
We have local English friends who have extensive experience hosting Workaways over the years. They speak highly of the scheme and the experiences they have had with visitors from around the world, hence why we have decided to take part.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We bought a large house in order to provide opportunities for a broad range of different people to have time & space to explore the area as well as to learn about themselves & what they can achieve.
We live in a beautiful part of Spain, surrounded by mountains, whilst Alicante, the Mediterranean coast and the airport are all within 30 to 45 minutes by car. There are many hiking and biking routes for those interested, plus local gardens, bodegas and more castles than you could ever wish for! All of which provide visitors with a broad range of cultural experiences based on their interests.
Tim has a huge workshop where he carries out various DIY activities and I am interested in a range of crafts, photography and am just learning to paint.
We love travelling so always seek opportunities to grow our knowledge of other cultures. Our faith is also important to us, so again this is an area where we can share - but only where appropriate of course.

With a house and grounds of this size we always welcome help in the garden, doing tasks alongside the two of us. Typically, this might include pruning, clearing areas, digging ground, creating new garden areas, weeding & taking care of the fruit and vegetables we grow, etc. We have a constant list of tasks that need doing around the place, but just not enough time between the two of us to keep up!

We are keen to host Spanish speakers so we can further develop our skills in this language and their English knowledge, but will also happily help other language speakers to learn either English or Spanish. Where we have language issues there's always Google Translate!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We offer a double bedroom, with an ensuite, providing a shower, toilet & sink. The bathroom is open to the bedroom so this needs to be considered by anyone looking to come & stay with us. The bedroom is on the ground floor away from other sleeping areas. There are also two further double rooms on the first floor that could be used if needed. These share a bathroom. Our bedroom and bathroom are also on the first floor, but separate.
Otherwise, the kitchen, other living areas and the gardens are fully available to be shared with us.
In terms of food, then all meals will be provided - help in the kitchen is always welcome though! We are able to host people with a range of food intolerances (gluten, dairy, etc), as well as vegetarians.
The extensive grounds include a range of different seating areas and there is a small pool available to use in the summer months.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are close to a local train station, providing direct access to Alicante, as well as other areas. There is also a high-speed train station a few KM away, providing access to Madrid in just over two hours. As stated above, there is so much in the local area for people to do, depending on their interests and we would work to ensure that visitors make the most of their time with us.
There is the possibility of using our car if we don't have plans & we would aim to include visitors in things we were doing at the time, where possible.
In terms of house rules then there is no smoking in or around the house. We would also not be happy with drugs or excessive swearing. Our friends have an initial "family conference" to discuss all aspects of the stay and we would follow this process. We are keen for visitors to feel at home staying with us and believe that achieving this clarity early on will help towards everyone feeling relaxed from the start.
