Description
Our "team" is pretty small, informal, and family-like. We work with a wonderful local handyman who helps us full-time, five days a week, on all kinds of projects around the property. About half the time, he's joined by an assistant. His wife also helps us several days a week with cooking, cleaning, and other household tasks. There's always more to do than we can possibly keep up with, so everyone tends to pitch in where they can.
The handyman also often brings a few of his dogs along, which adds to the fun and relaxed atmosphere around the property.
As for our resident animals, we have a very energetic 5-month-old Border Collie, a sweet 1-year-old Caramelo (the beloved Brazilian mixed-breed dog), and a young Siamese kitten who is quickly becoming part of the team as well.
Overall, the atmosphere here is very friendly, collaborative, and informal. We're not a business or a large organization—just a small group of people, animals, and friends working together to build something special in a beautiful place. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Cultural exchange is a big part of life here. Between the two of us, we come from American, Dominican, Russian, and Korean backgrounds, and we enjoy sharing our cultures through everyday life, food, traditions, stories, and celebrations.
We also live in rural Brazil and are very connected to the local community. The people who help us around the property are Brazilian, we regularly cook and eat Brazilian food, and we often spend time with local friends and neighbors. It's not unusual for us to get together for a Brazilian barbecue or other social gatherings.
We see cultural exchange as something that happens naturally through living together, sharing meals, working on projects, exploring the local area, and talking about our different experiences and backgrounds. We have a chalet We're genuinely interested in learning about other cultures and sharing our own, and we hope that anyone who stays with us will feel comfortable introducing us to their traditions, food, language, and perspective as well. -
Help
We're building out a rural property near Casimiro de Abreu, and there's always more to do than our small team can keep up with. Most people help around 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, and we match tasks to what you enjoy.
Light Construction and maintenance: working alongside our full-time local handyman on building projects, painting, simple carpentry, repairs and general tasks around the property.
Gardening and land: planting, weeding, clearing paths, watering and keeping the grounds in shape.
Around the house: cooking shared meals, light cleaning and keeping common spaces tidy. Our 5-month-old Border Collie, 1-year-old Caramelo and kitten also need walks, play and attention.
Digital and project work (great for digital nomads): social media, photos and video, simple website updates, marketing, and helping organize and track our projects.
Creative and community: art projects, creative DIY builds, and sometimes teaching or local charity activities.
Most of this needs no experience, just a willingness to pitch in. If you have a specific skill like building, design, video or cooking, tell us and we'll plan around it. -

Accommodation
We have a three-bedroom, three-bathroom house with a full kitchen that we are opening up for volunteers. This space will serve as your home during your stay, providing a comfortable place to rest, cook, and connect with others while contributing to our project.
For transportation, our next-door neighbor is available to drive you into the nearest town, Casimiro de Abreu, where you can find shops, restaurants, and other essentials. For a small fee, they can also take you to Rio das Ostras, a beautiful coastal town known for its beaches and relaxed atmosphere.
Food and cooking here are very flexible and communal. The private chalet where guests stay has its own small kitchen area with a gas stove, sink, and refrigerator, so guests can prepare their own meals if they prefer.
In addition, our main house has a full kitchen that guests are always welcome to use, and we also have a separate outdoor kitchen area with a sink and grill, which is a great place to cook and hang out. We have a cook a few days a week and an open kitchen with plenty of ingredients. We cook most meals!
Rosie, who works with us several days a week, often cooks delicious homemade meals, and when we have guests staying, we usually rotate between Rosie cooking, us cooking, and guests cooking or preparing meals together. Sharing food and trying different cuisines is an important part of the experience here.
Although we don't have a car, getting food and supplies is surprisingly easy. We typically do grocery shopping about once a week using a local motorcycle taxi service, and it's also possible to have a wide variety of prepared meals delivered from nearby restaurants. Depending on the distance and the order, delivery costs are usually quite reasonable, making it easy to access almost anything you might want. -
