    Description

I recently bought a home on a beautiful bush block in Leura, 5 minutes drive from the railway station. I live with two cats, and have grand ideas to establish little garden spaces around the block, connected by gravel pathways.

Leura is a stunning little village in the blue mountains, with nearby bush walks galore, great cafes, bakeries plus the famous monthly Blackheath Growers Market (well worth a visit).

A non-smoking zone. Guests often refer to my home as a retreat, a place of calm, somewhere to relax and unwind, something I thought would be lovely to share with others passing through.

The Blue Mountains rest on the traditional lands of the Darug and Gundungurra peoples, there are many beautiful walks, towns and villages to visit and stunning areas of natural beauty to explore. Sunsets are extraordinary, especially from various View Points such as Echo Point which is 10 minutes drive away.

Come to experience a different Australia than the beaches often shown, there is a lot of history tucked away, ready for those curious to explore.

Having travelled extensively for many years, always loved staying with people who knew the areas I visited. Now I am in the position myself to be a host & local knowledge provider, look forward to sharing this idyllic part of Australia with you.

    Help

Am looking for help in the garden, general maintenance as well as other projects. Knowledge of gardening, landscaping or DIY would be useful but anybody keen to get stuck in is welcome.

Having just moved here recently, the bush block has several looping tracks for which I am seeking help to gravel and edge with stone to create well constructed walkways. Am also looking to clear a small area to create a healing garden. There may also be other odd tasks weeding, painting etc. We'd be looking for a single person or couple to do about 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week but times and days can be flexible (especially since gardening is weather dependent). This might mean sometimes working longer days when needed and then taking extra days off.

If it rains a lot while you are here, then any help keeping the house tidy is appreciated. There are plenty of general home maintenance tasks around as well, so please let me know if you have experience with any home DIY.

Happy to host someone who enjoys cooking and is willing to pitch in a couple of nights a week to cook (or if you love cooking - cook as much as you like!)

Have two cats, so the right volunteer(s) will be content with spoilt cats who are treated with kindness and respect.

There is an expectation that you will tidy up after yourself, help out with communal tasks such as cleaning up after meals and generally treat the house with care. Would greatly appreciate hosting people who can pitch in with general tasks rather than waiting to be asked. At the end of your stay please give your bedroom and bathroom a thorough clean.

If you have other skills or interests I'd love to hear about them, thank you.

    Accommodation

You would have a large private room with a double bed, with your own separate shower, bath and toilet.

We share the living & kitchen areas, you are welcome to use the laundry for washing clothes + wifi internet.

Walking to the train station takes 20 minutes, if you have a car, there is space on the grounds for parking. Overall it's a very quiet bushland residential area, not party central, so if you are happy to chill in a bushland setting, this would be for you :)

You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare food for your own breakfasts, lunches/snacks. Happy to provide basics like bread, oats, fruit, vegetables, pasta, rice etc + ingredients for any evening meals you cook for us. If you have any specific dietary requirements, please let me know when applying. I do eat meat, love vegetarian, but not a fan of beans - don't ask, has been a thing since childhood. Overall am pretty laid back about food + open to different dishes & flavours.

    What else ...

Transport - 20minutes walk to Leura Train Station and you can swiftly catch a train to most areas in the Blue Mountains. Leura also has a number of tourist bus options for those seeking to travel to more off the track areas.

Lulu is quite shy and while she loves a good tummy rub, will often hide or stay outside. Life is definitely on her terms.
