    Description

We moved into the family farmhouse in 2012. It has needed a lot of love! It is just my husband and myself along with our two young children.

So far we have really enjoyed the workaway's we have had to date. We always choose those that want to be here to practice or are learning English.

We would be happy to offer a stay of two weeks per workaway as we live in rural Suffolk ( previous experience has shown us this is an ideal length of time without feeling too isolated). If we all got on, We are very happy to extend this for as long as you needed.

We are very rural and transport always involves getting in the car and travelling. I'm super happy to drop people off into the nearest town on days off etc (5 days on 2 days off). Other than the pub there isn't a great deal to do within walking distance. I do feel this year I need to point out this is a working holiday. We are open to any help but a contribution to our busy daily lives is expected.

We have had two to three work aways a year since we have moved into the farmhouse and we found the work away scheme works best in short bursts for our benefit as well as yours because of the location- we are 3 miles from a town. We are happy to get you a bike so you can spend your weekend exploring or getting to the train station 3 miles away.

We have signed up because we love the concept of hosting people that also want to enjoy and learn from what we have. We work 365 days a year (and don't often get away) though we can bring the world's cultures, and more importantly, food (!!) to us! Especially teaching our children your language.

We are primarily looking for help in the home (cleaning etc), help watching the children whilst I do computer work, and help cleaning our holiday cottages. We don't have an endless supply of skilled projects but there are always odd jobs to do around the farm. Jobs have so far included house keeping, helping with the camping site, glamp site, three woodlands, fishing pond, making a veg garden with us, mowing lawns etc. a lot of the work is alongside us so we can maximize English speaking for those wanting to perfect their English. We have a very large farmhouse that needs constant maintenance and cleaning. large gardens that need weeding and a large veg patch that needs tending.

Due to the nature of the work, over 20 years old is almost certainly a must.

Breakfast and lunch are usually eaten together in the farmhouse. We cook one family hot meal a day and take it in turns to cook a national dish so encourage our workaways to join in and take a turn too once a week.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We live in quite a traditional farming way, I cook simple English roasts, casseroles which I'm happy to teach people that are interested in learning our cultural foods. As food producer's we are excited to try new cuisines and practices. Our 16c house is listed and we dont have many mod cons which we enjoy sharing with people. locally there is an amazing pub with a great ethos on locally produced micro breweries as their suppliers and an eco camp.
