Description
I'm Ian — by day I work as a consultant advising NGOs doing important work around the world. In my spare time I am working to restore a cottage on the Maine coast that has been in my family for three generations. I've got lots of projects to do and would love extra sets of hands.

You'll be situated on the beautiful Maine coast, steps from the water and about 100 meters from a nature preserve. Ten minutes away by car is a beautiful state park and beach — I will provide to travellers staying with me a pass they can use for free entry to that park and any of Maine's 48 other parks. You'll be 25 minutes from the scenic college town of Brunswick and an hour from Portland, Maine's largest city and an extraordinary hub for some of the country's best food and drink, including the world-famous Allagash Brewery. I'll be glad to arrange cultural exchange opportunities — you could spend the day aboard a lobster or tuna fishing boat, seeing how Maine's fishing economy works. Georgetown is also home to several oyster farms which provide tours. I'm an avid hiker and runner, so I'd live to show folks my favorite trails and hikes.

Help
There's lots of projects to do around the house — it almost feels like an endless amount! Organizing, painting, trimming and pruning trees, basic carpentry and construction, and much more. If you have relevant experience in construction, plumbing, or electrical work, I will pay a wage starting at $14.15/hour. This wage would not apply to basic tasks like painting or yard work. Let's talk and see what's a good fit!
I have been studying Spanish for several months and would love to have someone in the house with whom I could practice and grow that skill, though that's certainly not necessary.Languages
Languages spoken
Spanish: BeginnerThis host offers a language exchange
I love languages — I've studied Latin, Italian, and Spanish. Though Spanish is the only one in which I am conversant. But I'd love to learn more about another language and share my English with anyone.Accommodation
You'll have your own bedroom and we'll share a bathroom and shower. The house is an active construction area, so it's rough around the edges, but you'll have a kitchen, shower with hot water, and a washing machine. There's also a great parking spot for a van or small camper. I love to cook and look forward to preparing meals for anyone staying with me. I will also make sure the house is stocked with staples for sandwiches, pasta, and other things you might want to cook for yourself. Most importantly you'll wake up with a view of the ocean, to the sounds of birds, the rumbling of distant lobster boats, and the unmatched scent of fresh sea air through evergreen pine trees.
What else ...
While I don't have a spare vehicle, I will be happy to provide transport to local bus and train stations, and the airport in Portland. You may be able to borrow my vehicle for day trips here and there, depending on my schedule.
