Description
Welcome to our Sanctuary! We’re part of the long-established charity based in the UK, and we’ve recently begun our new chapter here in Murcia, Spain. Here we’re creating a fresh sanctuary space for horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, dogs, and cats. We’re currently putting in all the essential infrastructure (fences, watering systems, and shelters) to make this a true haven. With over 13 years of experience behind us, this is our second sanctuary site, and we’d love for volunteers to join us on this exciting journey.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
At our sanctuary, the cultural exchange is really about immersing in the natural beauty of our surroundings and working respectfully as a team. While we don't emphasize traditional cultural activities, we offer volunteers the chance to experience the serene landscape, stunning sunsets, and the tranquility of the national park. Our focus is on fostering a respectful, purpose-driven environment where everyone contributes to creating a haven for animals. In other words, it's less about cultural expectations and more about joining a like-minded community dedicated to a shared goal. We all sit down together at the end of each day and enjoy a home cooked, hearty meal and discuss the topics of the day. Lunch times are also spent together and form a punctuation point in the middle of the day. Meal times offer an ideal opportunity to come together and form lasting and meaningful bonds. We have been hosting volunteers for over 10 years and there is so much to learn from every experience. Everyone is different and has different stories to tell. Some are introverted and prefer to remain quiet, others want to be the centre of attention. We have learned to manage that environment very well and create an environment where our volunteers feel valued, respected and leave with a true sense of achievement.
The surrounding area is national park so if nature is high on the agenda we offer fantastic hiking, biking trails, river swims, forest walks, mountain climbing centres, kayaking, rafting, caving and with the beach just 1 hour away there is also the opportunity for beach based watersports (scuba, kite surfing, snorkelling, boat hire etc).
Being set close to a traditional small Spanish mountain town, you ca expect many fiestas and traditional activities. We are situated just on the outskirts of Bullas in Murcia which is a wine growing region and offers wine tours and wine museums not to mention the possibility to experience traditional bee keeping activities also. Murcia city is just 30 minutes by direct bus and offers everything that you would expect from a modern city with shopping, restaurants, theatre, markets, nightclubs, supermarkets and regular events and concerts.
Our sanctuary currently operates in English and Spanish language.
We look forward to welcoming dedicated individuals to our team.

Help
We're looking for upbeat, practical Workawayers from all walks of life who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves. While everyone is welcome, it's important to know that this phase of our sanctuary is very physically active. The tasks are quite hands-on - think mucking out and assisting with the daily animal care duties. So, being fit and comfortable with physical tasks is key.
Whether you're a strong young person, someone with animal experience, or just realistically ready for some hard tasks, we welcome you. Right now you'll be more focused on taking care of the animals, dog walks, cleaning feed buckets, grooming, assisting the animal care team and animal feed preparation. We look forward to meeting you!

For accommodation, we offer a private room in the main sanctuary house or within one of our onsite cabins. For a more rustic experience, we have a cave house currently under renovation that can offer very basic accommodations. Regardless of where you stay, we provide essential facilities like showers, toilets, and cooking areas. We aim to make your stay comfortable yet simple, so you can focus on the work and the natural surroundings.
We provide 3 meals per day which is usually served in a group setting so that meal times become a great way to share the days experiences. If prepared meals are not available you will be given ingredients and facilities to prepare your own. Any and all food provided is vegan friendly.
