    Description

Hi, we live in a small Alentejo farmhouse in beautiful nature, it feels like in the midst of nowhere (but not really, there are a lot more people living in the midst of nowhere), on 11 hectares, no direct neighbours. We have two small lakes for swimming and cooling off, veggie garden and some fruit trees and a lot more. There are two dogs, medium size, they love to walk, we do that often near the beach, Rota Vicentina long distance footpaths, which is about 25 km away, you can always get a ride there. The area falls under Odemira in Alentejo, with beach places like Zambujeira do Mar, Odexeixe, Aljezur, Vila Nova de Milffontes, good for surfing and more fun. It is also near Barragem Santa Clara where you can also swim. The nearest place with shops, restaurants, etc is 18 km away, there is a busstop nearby (at 900 meters from the house) and I go there regularly by car, so you can have a ride. Nearby there are two small cafe's for coffee, tosta and more. There is lots of things to do in the area, incl. weekly artisanal markets, festivals, music and dance parties, pizza pop-ups and jam sessions.

Most of the 11 hectares are nature. We work in the vegetable garden organic and permaculture based, so you can learn from that, as well as a few languages if you want. If interested, you can get hands-on skills in Reiki, Shiatsu & foot reflexology, energy balancing and natural remedies. Most important is that we have a click and that you enjoy being with us.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We work in the vegetable garden organic and permaculture based, so you can learn about that. We have lived and worked in many countries, including on the African continent, so we have lots of cultural stories and experiences to share with you, lots of ideas for traveling and working in Africa as well.
We speak a few languages, so you can choose which ones to learn, if you want to. Definitely you need a few words of Portuguese as that makes a lot of difference with the locals.
If interested, you can get hands-on skills in Reiki, Shiatsu & foot reflexology, energy balancing and natural remedies.
There is lots of things to do in the area, incl. weekly artisanal markets, festivals and dance parties, pizza pop-ups and jam sessions. There is a good mixed crowd of Portuguese and foreigners from different countries. We have plenty of books to read (in different languages), instead of television & internet.

  • Help

    Help

we are looking for people who are positive, internally motivated to work, open to learn about new things, are culturally sensitive, who love nature and don't have to be entertained the whole time. And most important dog lovers, as the dogs also want some attention. We are looking for help with the vegetable garden, planting, clearing weeds, making new plant beds, watering, developing a herb and flower garden, repairing fence, making the sheds rain free, building a compost toilet outside and an outside shower. Also some caring for the dogs, incl. walking and feeding some days. If possible, we would enjoy someone who is good in baking bread and cakes.

    Accommodation

Accommodation is in house, on a bed couch in the kitchen or living room, and when the weather is good, it can also be in a tent outside, if you want. All the facilities of the house can be used, incl. bathroom, kitchen with fireplace, even in winter nice and warm. We will share the evening meal together (vegetarian is no problem) and we can provide some ingredients for the other meals or share as well. You can share rides with us when we go somewhere, so you will be a bit mobile as well.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Time off is always easy and you can enjoy the hilly area nature as well as the beachside nearby. Transport by bus or on a regular basis you can have a ride by car with us, where you want to go. For example once per week to Odemira, which is a historic town. There are beautiful walks in the area as well as the Rota Vicentina nearby. There is a lot to do in the area, culturally, music wise, the real Alentejo country life, wine tasting, beach life, swimming, nice cafes and restaurants, hanging out.

Important: There is very weak internet and phone network available at the house, due to the surrounding hills, so you can get off your online addiction!
