    Description

We are looking for thrill-seekers that are fluent in English to help in an adventure tourism agency. This is a tourist agency with extensive experience in trekking, mountain climbing, rock climbing, adventure sports and other activities in the Cordillera Blanca. Huaraz is a trekking and climbing Mecca with access to 6,000m peaks and some incredible hikes.

This is a family-run business and you will get to know the family of the owner, as well as those that drop into the shop looking for equipment or tours.

While working here, you will gain a deeper understanding of the surrounding areas and the adventure tourism business. It is a good base to connect with tourists and find climbing/hiking partners, and the hours are flexible. We can help provide you with discounts or logistical support to activities including but not limited to:

-Trekking (Laguna 69 day trip, Santa Cruz 4 day, Huayhuash 8-10 day, Alpamayo circuit 12 day and more)
    -Mountaineering up to 6,000m peaks
    -Rock & ice climbing
    -Canyoneering
    -Horseback rides
    -Bungee jumping
    -Mountain biking
    -Ruins & historic sites

In order to best accommodate your needs as well as that of the business, we ask that you try and give a few days notice before embarking on your objectives.

Additionally, this is a great opportunity to practice your Spanish and get to know Mila's family. Peruvian culture is very family-oriented, and they will also be helping out around the shop.

  • Help

    Help

We are seeking volunteers to help an adventure tourism agency and providing information about treks, climbs, and tours to travelers. Most customers are English speakers so fluency in English is required, though Spanish is a plus. In addition to communicating with customers, here are some additional areas we could use help in:

    -Business/ administrative implementations
    -Social media & advertising
    -Website translation
    -Maintaining this Workaway page
-Organization and cleaning of rental gear,
    -General store upkeep

The ideal volunteer will have enthusiasm about hiking, trekking, outdoor adventure with willingness to learn about the area, about our offerings, as well as an interest in connecting with other travelers to help with logistics and information. This is a flexible opportunity to help out and help in areas of the business that you think could be improved (eg. website translation, updating this Workaway page, social media, advertising, etc). We prefer someone with at least a year's working experience who is interested in applying their creative skills to help the business grow.

We ask for one month minimum because of the time it takes to learn about the area and build a relationship with Mila & her family. A stay of that duration would allow you time to take advantage of the awesome outdoor activities and give you time to acclimate, as Huaraz is located at 3000m (9,000 ft) and the altitude for the hikes goes up quite quickly from there.

    Accommodation

You will have your own room with a hot shower in a hostel, that is also run by Mila. It is located by the Cemetery in a quiet neighborhood within 5 minutes with a collectivo (0.8 soles) or 15 minute walk away. The rooms are set up in dorm-style single beds, but you could get creative with bed rearrangements if you are a couple. The window opens out onto the Huaraz countryside, and gets good sun in the morning.

Please note: At the time of writing the accommodation does not have a kitchen, however it is possible to eat at many local restaurants on the cheap. Daily menus go from 5-10 soles or 8-20 for a meal in not the most expensive restaurants around the area.

    What else ...

Mila has been in the adventure tourism business for 15 years and knows the area very well. She is raising a (at time of writing) three year old daughter, who is quite a bundle of energy, and will likely be joining you in the afternoons after school. Her family does not speak english but is quite friendly.

There is a lifetime´s worth of adventure waiting for you in Huaraz!
