Description
We are Nuria and Rubén and we live with our 10-year-old daughter Lena and 82-year-old grandfather Celso in Amiadoso, a small village in Galicia in the Allariz Biosphere Reserve. At the moment, we are also happily joined by a workawayer, Magalí from Argentina, that's been here helping out for some months now.
We have a cultural project, where we host artists in residence, mainly in the field of dance, and carry out other activities such as meetings, exhibitions, or dance workshops.
We have a vegetable plot for self-consumption and several plots with chestnut trees, olive trees, and apple trees.
We are finishing enabling the house facilities.Types of help and learning opportunities

Through our project, many artists come around and spend time with us. The artistic world is always beaming with creativity and humble people that enjoy sharing themselves, their knowledge and experience with others. This could be a great space and time to explore movement, learn about interesting projects and socialize.
We also come into contact with the surrounding community and attend cultural activities.
You will get to experience the life of rural Galicia, delight on its typical cuisine (lots of chorizo and green leaf vegetables) and maybe get to live through some of its traditional local festivities.
You can take dance classes.
You can take yoga classes with Magalí.
You can learn from grandfather Celso the art of pruning trees and traditional vegetable plot care.
You can learn carpentry and welding with Rubén.Help
!---At this specific time, we're looking for strong and resilient people to help out with the firewood handling. There is lots of moving and carrying logs inside the house, so we want to make the sure the person that is eager to come knows that this is what they would be doing if right now. ---!
----
As the seasons change in beautiful Galicia, so do our activities here.
Even though there are some periods more heavily focused on something in particular, there are some practices that we need to keep going for longer periods of time or even all year round, that are just essential for living in the countryside, like firewood, farm and gardening, and more. Very roughly speaking, this is what we focus on depending on the time of the year:
- Winter: Processing, moving and organizing firewood to keep ourselves warm.
- Spring: We start setting up the farm, preparing seed beds and planting what we want to see grow. We still help with handling and preparing firewood for cold times during the year and to set up a good foundation for the following Winter.
- Summer: Focus mainly on keeping the farm, watering, weeding, mowing the lawn around the finca.
- Autumn: Farm harvesting, making homemade preserves and storing, chestnust harvesting, pruning.
Also, the space where we hold the classes, workshops and residencies, is going through an intense reconstruction, (we are renovating a two-century-old stone house! for more than 3 years now), and so there's always bits of organizing here and there, and maybe lending up a hand at specific points in time. The heavy work is all done by paid professionals.
This Spring, we're setting up a new farm space and we would love to maybe introduce some permacultural principals to keep learning how to make a more efficient and sustainable use of our land. If this is something you have a good knowledge about, we would love to learn from you and have you help us with this new design. Please let us know!
Besides this, our regular household duties also involve:
- preparing food, which is usually taken care of by our amazing chef Rubén, but he still appreciates help and learning new recipes.
- bits of maintenance. In such a large and communal space things seem to always be breaking, so we always love having handy people around.
- overall caring for the farm, land and indoor spaces.
- our recently relocated workshop is filled with tools in great need of developing new projects. If you have experience or you would like to learn about carpentry or welding, Rubén will be glad to share his space and knowledge with you, while making new and neccessary additions to the house.
- at times, when big groups are coming we all contribute to the setting of the residence space, helping with preparing food and clearing up after.Languages
