    Description

We are Nuria and Rubén, and we live with our 11-year-old daughter, Lena, and Rubén's 83-year-old father, Celso, in Amiadoso, a tiny village in rural Galicia, within the Allariz Biosphere Reserve.

A Casa is both our family home and an international artistic residency. We believe that art, rural life and hospitality can enrich one another.

Throughout the year we welcome artists, volunteers and friends from many different countries who come to create, learn and share everyday life with us.

Alongside the cultural project, we grow vegetables for our own consumption and care for chestnut, olive and apple trees surrounding the house.

We hope you'll leave not only with new skills and unforgettable memories, but also with the feeling that, for a little while, A Casa was your home too.

A Casa is much more than a rural project—it's an international artistic residency, a family home, and a place where people from different countries come together to create, learn and share everyday life.

    🏡 An extended family
Rather than thinking of ourselves as a community, we see A Casa as an **extended family**. There is a small permanent family at its heart, surrounded by artists, volunteers, researchers and friends who come and go, each leaving their mark on the project.

    🎭 A unique cultural experience
Live alongside artists in residence, discover creative processes from the inside, attend informal presentations, workshops and cultural events, and exchange ideas with people from many different backgrounds. You don't need to be an artist—just curious and open-minded.

    🌿 Authentic rural Galicia
Experience life in the Galician countryside while learning about vegetable gardening, caring for the land, preserving seasonal food, sustainable living and local traditions.

    🛠 Learn by doing
If you're interested, you can learn carpentry, woodworking and welding with Rubén, join movement and dance sessions with Nuria, or discover how an independent cultural project and artistic residency is organised behind the scenes.

    ❤️ More than volunteering
The greatest learning doesn't come from a workshop—it comes from sharing everyday life. Cooking together, working together, celebrating, having long conversations around the table and building genuine relationships with people from different cultures and generations.

Many volunteers arrive looking for a place to help for a while. They leave feeling they have found a second home—and many become part of our extended family long after their stay has ended.

  • Help

    Help

We're not looking for workers—we're looking for people who genuinely want to become part of the life of A Casa.

Life here follows the rhythm of the seasons, so the kind of help we need changes throughout the year. There isn't a fixed list of daily tasks or a strict schedule. A Casa is a living, organic project, and every week we organise ourselves together according to what is most needed.

If you enjoy adapting, collaborating and embracing the unexpected, you'll probably feel at home here. If you need everything to be planned in advance, we may not be the right place for you.

Curiosity, flexibility, initiative and a willingness to learn matter much more to us than previous experience.

    🌱 Caring for the land

Depending on the season, you may help with gardening, watering, harvesting, pruning, making preserves, caring for fruit trees and processing firewood.

    🏡 Sharing everyday life

Cooking together, looking after our shared home, general maintenance and helping each other with everyday tasks are all part of life here.

    🔨 Practical projects

If you enjoy working with your hands, there are often opportunities to learn and contribute through carpentry, woodworking, welding and other practical projects in Rubén's workshop.

    🎭 Artistic residencies

Helping prepare spaces, welcoming artists, supporting workshops and community events, or simply making sure everything runs smoothly.

    📷 Creativity & communication

Photography, filmmaking, graphic design, writing and social media are always welcome to help tell the story of the place.

    🌿 Share what you know

Whether it's permaculture, cooking, crafts, music, languages or any other passion, we believe volunteering is about exchanging knowledge, not just helping.

    ❤️ Long-term volunteers

We especially value volunteers interested in staying for several months. From our experience, longer stays create a richer experience for everyone: they allow volunteers to become part of the rhythm of the project, build meaningful relationships and gradually take on more responsibility.

We usually host one long-term volunteer at a time, who shares daily life with our family and, from time to time, with shorter-term volunteers who bring fresh energy and new perspectives.

Above all, we don't see Workaway as an exchange of work for accommodation. We see it as an opportunity to share everyday life, learn from one another and become part of our extended family.

If this resonates with you, we'd love to hear from you.

    What else ...

Amiadoso is a small and peaceful village where life follows the rhythm of the countryside and neighbours still stop for a chat.

Just 2 km away is Allariz, one of Galicia's most beautiful historic towns, with cafés, restaurants, cultural events and a vibrant community of people interested in culture, agroecology, sustainability and personal growth.

The province of Ourense is known as the thermal capital of Galicia, with several beautiful free natural hot springs just 15–20 km from our home. Whenever the opportunity arises, you can also explore the surrounding forests, rivers, hiking trails and beautiful landscapes.

A bicycle is the easiest way to reach Allariz, and we can occasionally lend you a car by prior arrangement when needed.
