    Description

Hey! We (Romina and Lars) live on a beautiful property with two daughters (2 and 4), one friendly dog, one not-so-friendly-and-shy cat, a few sheep, and a thriving ecosystem of Tassie animals. We have a stone house which we live in, and a tiny house on wheels and a hut for guest accomodation (both new and super cosy). We love sharing our property with anyone and are always keen to meet new people. We speak both german and english at home, and love cooking.
We live 30mins from Launceston (world class restaurants at good prices) and 30 mins to Ben Lomond, Tassie's premier ski resort. We have lot's of walks around our place through the native grasslands and woodlands. I'm a trained ecologist I'd love to show you all the amazing plants and animals we have here and talk about anything nature based!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Being a multicultural house hold with German and English spoken, we can help with these languages. We often do walks around and know the area very well so would definitely be up for some missions to mountains, waterfalls and nature based places. You'd also get to meet our friends when they visit us or when we visit them.
Our daughters are our life, our eldest has a disability but is the happiest girl, our 2 year old is soooo cheeky it's darn cute! They will both be able to get a smile on your face and no doubt have you reading some books to them.
You'd have the chance to learn about ecology, botany, sourdough, kombucha, jam making, a variety of global meals that we cook, gardening, landscaping, carpentry, working with power tools and chainsaws (if you're comfortable with them), running an accommodation business, drumming, ukulele (though maybe you could teach me better), and we just love having yarn.
We would look forward to learning about different cultures, the lifestyle people live, favourite meals, new languages, stories, any new skills or more efficient and sustainable ways we could do things and sharing a laugh at the end of the day on the couch.

  • Help

    Help

Jobs we would like some help with a varied, from maintaining our vege garden (planting, preping, pruning fruit trees, composting etc.), the never ending task of firewood collection (it's our only heat and hot water source for our house, the other huts have electric), building a chook tractor, setting up a siphon for garden watering (anyone in the know would be super helpful!), doing some burning of grasslands to improve biodiversity, removing some nasty weeds (gorse), helping out in the house, playing with our kids, building a playground, putting a few final touches on our guest hut (shelving in the walk-in robe) and some landscaping works around the place.
If your not confident with a task, we are really happy to teach you until you have the skills. I've gardened most of my life and love introducing people to the love of getting your hands dirty. But we are often busy between parenting and work, so there'll likely be times when you would be doing tasks by yourself.
We are flexible with what you would want to do and would never put any stress on helpers, we were helpers ourselves when we were younger and love hosting people!

    Accommodation

We offer a small but new and tidy cabin with a king bed, a breakfast bar, a walk in robe and a bathroom (compost toilet, vanity and shower). The space is well built to capture the winter sun but we also provide a heater to keep you warm. It's all very new and in top condition, you'll love waking up looking over the hills full of eucalyptus and enjoying a Tassie sunset.
Cooking will be done in our kitchen which is very good, all stainless steel pots/pans, induction cooktop, everything you'd need plus a tagine!

We aim to share all meals together, musli or toast for brekkie, leftovers or a light lunch such as sandwiches, omelette, and dinner could be anything from a vege stir fry, home venison or lamb roast, or a laksa (and everything in between). There might be times, or if the Workawayers prefer, we are very happy to offer ingredients to cook their own meal or a stipend. Note the accomodation doesn't have any cooking facilities, but our kitchen is there to be used. We are very flexible, but for us food is a social affair for us to come together and we would love to share that experience. It's the best time to really share stories, reflect on the day and have a good yarn!
