    Description

Hello! I am Erika, an architect making my way in bio-architecture. I am building a small Earth Ship in Tapalpa; Jalisco. I am doing it myself with the help of a bricklayer who accompanies me for a few days and friends who suddenly join me. I love to be building but I need more helping hands. If you like bio-architecture and natural construction you are in the right place. I have a lot to share with you. I also love plants, so as another activity we can start planting things on the ground. Earthships are a radically sustainable type of construction. They use natural and reused materials, rainwater harvesting, solar energy, food production, thermal mass, and wastewater management. They contemplate all the basic needs for the human being. It's a very interesting concept and I had the opportunity to learn it directly at the Earthship Biotecture academy with Bioarchitect Michael Reynolds. So rest assured that you are in good hands to learn a lot in this volunteering. Tapalpa is a magical town two hours from Guadalajara by car. You can enjoy the beautiful architecture with white houses, tile roofs and cobbled streets. You also have to come willing to try the tacos, elotes, tamales, pot coffee, sweet bread etc... Sometimes the cabin is rented on weekends, so we can take advantage of the break to go camping and hike in the mountains , or to the beach... There are a couple of tourist destinations where we can go.

Hola!

Tapalpa is definitely a good place to get a taste of Mexico. We can go to the pinganas (milk from a rough cow), have a little pitcher, hopefully you will have to enjoy a town festival and more.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The lodging is in a cabin with all the comforts; shower with hot water, kitchen, dining room, TV room with netflix, fireplace, wifi... And a nice view to the outside towards the pines. The room is most likely for you alone, but if you have more volunteers, you will probably have to share it for a few days. The cabin is 7 minutes from town by car or 20 walking.

I will do basic grocery shopping like eggs, flour, cheese, tortillas, pasta, beans, fruits and vegetables among others... You can take whatever you like to make yourself food. I don't usually buy meat. If you need something extra, there is a store about 10 minutes away on foot. Or we can drive to the town.

In free time you can work or study using the Wi-Fi in the cabin, watch netflix, do yoga, go to town on foot, we can make bonfires, go to the waterfall, to the viewpoint... To walk there is only the town but in car we can go to other places.
