An incredible experience. I spent 3 weeks enjoying the Tyrrhenian sea and the mountains. Gian Ludovico and Camilla, the hosts, made me feel at home from the first moment, we shared some dinners together, enjoying delicious recipes and good wine. The palazzo is beautiful, full of art and history. In the village I met some very interesting local

I spent two months over the summer with Camilla and Gianludocivo. They are wonderful and practiced hosts, having done it as a full-time occupation. Their house is one of the most spectacular I have ever had the opportunity to stay in, full of wonderful stories in the art, textiles and furniture they have collected from around the globe. They are

Amantea is a lovely beach side town, with a local market, beautiful centro historico and different places to explore in the immediate vicinity- one of my favourites was the thermal springs in Lamezia Terme. Throughout my time I helped Gianludovico edit his book, shared wonderful dinners with them on the terrace and spent time with their grandson and the other workawayers who were there. It was a beautiful summer and I'm very grateful to them both. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Hello!
In a new life style I was looking for a place to escape dark and cold winter Swedish months. Therefore I stayed for four and a half months from December to April in a Palazzo in the Centro Historico of Amantea, Calabria, in the south of Italy. In the house I had a flat of my own with a view over the city, Etna and Stromboli, a private bath,
… read more kitchen to cook and a private entrance. My duties were to walk two dogs, take in wood, put out the garbage and other small projects that we agreed on little by little.
Amantea is a small town with quite a lot of shops near the sea and a good tourist information with English spoken staff. I learned Italian during my stay and made some day to day contacts that way. Few people speak English in Amantea so Italian is essential to really meet the culture. As I stayed so long and could speak and understand Italian ment that I got a good insight in real Italian lifestyle in a small village in the south of Italy.
It is difficult to find better hosts. I knew from the very beginning that Camilla and Gion Ludovico wanted me to have a good time - and I really had. I found out that it is not warm enough for me only to winter in south of Italy but I had the best of experiences and the best of times and I would be happy to come back to Italy again.

I've been in the House of Camilla and Jean Ludovico for nearly four months. It was an enriching experience. I learned a lot during this stay in Amantea. About others and about myself.
I met several workaways and their stories. That was great.
The work is easy. For me it did lack a bit of planning, because I like to plan everything.
Camilla is

Amantea is a beautiful city and I did many dear friends there. The town is small and people are very receptive and affectionate.
It has easy access by train to everywhere. The beach Amantea is not very careful, but in five minutes by train you can find beautiful beaches.

Chris and I had an enjoyable time here - although Camilla wasn't home much (she and Gion Ludovico spend a lot of time in Rome for his work), she was very warm and welcoming. The work was varied, mostly sanding/painting doors and shutters, cleaning, watering plants, ironing and doing the different bins on the right days!
The best parts for us
… read more were the other workawayers - Erico and Geceli were great and they really helped keep things lively. The palazzo is HUGE, and although rustic and beautiful, can be quite daunting on your own. So you guys were a saving grace for us :) There are many lovely paintings and pictures around the building, so if you're an art lover you won't be starved of beauty here.
The town is very pretty and the coastline is massive, meaning lots of swimming in the gorgeous Med, with a wonderful view of the mountains. Really spectacular. The locals were relatively standoffish, but as there were the four of us workawayers together this wasn't so much of a problem - if you speak good Italian then you'd definitely get more out of the town than we did!
Thank you for having us stay Camilla, and best of luck with the exhibition(s)!You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
