    Description

We are a young couple and we’ve just bought a large house built on the remains of an 11th-century church from 1077, of which some ruins still stand. The house is located 15 minutes from La Spezia and 30 minutes from the Cinque Terre. It features a large, one-and-a-half-hectare plot of land arranged across multiple terraces. We also have a fantastic glass container with a private bathroom to accommodate guests.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Social activities and community connectionWe love sharing meals, exchanging stories, and enjoying a good glass of local wine together after a day of work. Since we live just 15 minutes from La Spezia and 30 minutes from the stunning Cinque Terre, we are always happy to give you the best tips to explore the area, and we often organize day trips or hikes. You will also get a chance to meet our friends and the local community, diving straight into the authentic, relaxed Italian lifestyle.Skills and knowledge we can shareBy volunteering with us, you can learn about historical property renovation and the management of a traditional Ligurian terraced estate (terrazzamenti). We can share practical skills in gardening, land maintenance, and creative outdoor projects. Plus, if you want to practice your Italian, learn how to cook authentic local dishes, or understand the history of an 11th-century site, we are more than happy to teach you! What we hope to learn from youFor us, hosting is all about cultural exchange. We are incredibly excited to welcome people from all over the world, hear your unique life stories, and discover your traditions. We hope to learn new perspectives, alternative ways of living, and perhaps even some new recipes from your home country. We believe that every traveler brings a spark of inspiration, and we can’t wait to learn from your unique skills and background!

  • Help

    Help

We would like some help landscaping the garden. This includes building steps, setting up a vegetable patch, creating outdoor statues or art installations, and building small sheds or other outbuildings. The help also involves pruning some trees and generally helping us fix up the property, mainly focusing on the exterior.

You will stay in a truly unique and magnificent outbuilding. It is a stunning, fully-glazed container conversion, offering floor-to-ceiling glass walls that look right out onto the landscape. It comes with its own private, independent bathroom and is beautifully nestled among our olive trees. It is a peaceful, cozy, and private space where you can relax and feel completely immersed in nature.During your free time, you can completely unwind by taking a dip in our swimming pool. Plus, we have set up an incredible outdoor cinema right among the ancient ruins of the 11th-century church, where we can all gather to watch movies under the stars!

I am a passionate cooking enthusiast, so I would be delighted to prepare three fantastic meals a day for our guests. If they are interested, I could also teach them some traditional Italian recipes, such as homemade pasta, Genoese pesto, focaccia, homemade bread, and much more.

In addition, we have a small vegetable garden that provides us with wonderful fresh produce, which we love to use in our cooking.
