    Description

    Hello there,

I have just moved into this little house and am just getting started. I am living alone in the rainforest, very much immersed with the plants and animals. There is help needed to bring the home to a comfortable place, for example there is no hot water or solar power connected at this stage but I'm working on it haha! We can easily cook, there are full water tanks but I just like to prepare you for this really being off grid and basic if you are wanting to reach out. I would love your help to bring it to life slowly and will aim to make your time here lovely.

There will be more comforts in place by the end of the year but am busy with many projects and jobs outside of my home, I am currently enjoying a simple life and aware that things will take some time.

I am completely off grid and the home is accessible by 4wd only, about 15 minutes drive from Kuranda which is a lovely town. There is not easy access to public transport if you don't have a car but I am happy to assist by giving a lift whenever is needed, please be prepared for this if you visit.

I am passionate about living and working in harmony with the world around me. I have chosen this way of life because as much as I love the warm chaos of city life and travelling the world, I need some peace and quiet. You are welcome here if you wish to slow down and work on projects you may have in your life too that require your attention.

Sometimes we need some space to digest, or compost, this modern life and this is why I crave living simply and slowing down here.

My career has been mostly conservation and land management, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation and right now I work locally as a rainforest tour guide, I am young but feel I've lived many lives at this stage. I'm happy to share some stories and some basic lessons and hope to learn from you too.
Feel free to message and ask if you have any questions.

I practice artisan crafts like woodworking, silversmithing, ceramics, glass and stone cutting as well as growing and cooking food (the garden will be slowly starting here this year) and I'm to build a small studio out of one of the sheds here.

Occasionally I run workshops anout deep ecology for different communities, mostly activists and people on the frontlines of environmental work.
I love long talks, I also appreciate quiet time, reading, resting etc.

At this stage I am only open to short stays as life is busy and I don't have everything needed for longer projects.

This home is nestled in the Wet Tropics rainforest near Kuranda, one of the oldest living rainforests on Earth and a place rich in biodiversity and Indigenous cultural heritage. Life here is slow, creative, challenging but, toe, incredibly rewarding.

I know many traditional uses of plants, how to make some medicines, create paints and art, instruments from the land around, all sorts of things. If there is something you are interested in perhaps we can spend your visit sharing some passions that bring joy to you.

You’ll have the chance to experience off-grid living surrounded by all different birds, frogs, butterflies, fireflies at night and clean air and rainwater. You also might like some time left alone to just soak in this wild and beautiful place.

Right now will be mostly maintenance of the earth house, the walls will need a fresh mix of clay on them, walls upstairs need painting, grass cut, etc.
if you have skills and experience for off grid living or particular things you enjoy let me know.

We also spend time making crafts, planting and processing food if you're interested in these things. I'll be spending time exploring the property identifying plants, animals and keeping pathways clear, learning how to best take care of the land.

I'm gathering tools and building materials at the moment as I have just moved here with only a car load of supplies so I am starting from nothing other than the walls and kitchen around me which need some work too.

I have travelled and been hosted as a workawayer and would like to create a nice exchange where we get done whatever is needed as it comes up more than a strict and intense work routine.
Depending on your personality and skills I'm sure we can find a balance that feels good. I'm happy to work with you if time allows or leave you to do your own thing.

    Accommodation

The living space is a small and simple room connected to mine, there is a wall between but we will live very closely without much privacy which is my main reason for wanting short term guests for now.
For example, the shower and bath is also technically in the kitchen downstairs.

This life isn't for everyone but I am happy to make it work and to be as comfortable as I can make it if this kind of life way inspires you.

There is a private cleared block to camp on the property if you prefer your own spot instead of sharing the house. I can help a little with this too if you need to borrow some supplies.

We will share the responsibility of cooking and food preparation. Let me know any dietary requirements you have so we can work together for you to feel comfortable.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Kuranda’s a rainforest village full of character, markets, waterfalls, swimming holes and friendly locals. On your days off you can visit Barron Falls, explore Kuranda markets, take the Skyrail or train to Cairns, or just relax in the forest with a book or have a swim.
I can usually give lifts into town and can find ways to help if you want to explore further. If we are lucky with our timing we can go on some adventures together.

Life here is simple, creative and close to nature. We live slow, share meals sometimes, and keep things easy.
Respect the land and keep things tidy.
Use eco products and go gentle on power (on a generator while I get solar set up) and water (rainwater).
Quiet nights after 9 pm, sometimes the human and animals surrounding are noisy,
No drinking or substance use happens here.
Be kind, communicate openly, and enjoy the rainforest pace.
This is a calm, creative space for people to come and enjoy and take care.
