Description
Come and join me in the beautiful wet tropics of Kuranda, I want to share the beauty of this place and strive to always leave things better than I've found them. Come and take rest in between exploring the beautiful surrounding rainforest and coastal reefs. Would you like to discuss and practice conservation and land management, deep ecology, regenerative agriculture, and hand crafting things the old ways? This is how I love to spend my time. I'm sure I will learn something from you too.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
This home is nestled in the Wet Tropics rainforest near Kuranda, one of the oldest living rainforests on Earth and a place rich in biodiversity and Indigenous cultural heritage. Life here is slow, creative, and connected to the land.
You’ll have the chance to experience off-grid living surrounded by forest, birds, and waterfalls.
Cultural exchange as a two-way flow of learning is valued. Visitors are invited to share their own traditions, recipes, songs, crafts, and stories, and in return can learn about:
Deep ecology & regenerative living — understanding our place in nature through practice, reflection, and restoration help.
Local plant and wildlife knowledge — the rhythms of Wet Tropics Country, bush regeneration, animal conservation, rescue and rehabilitation and native food gardening.
Creative ritual & artisan skills — metal and wood working basics, taking care of plants and how to bring them closer to your life, eco-crafts through the Ritual Makers Studio that is slowly being built.
Community & cultural respect — living in relationship with local Indigenous knowledge and the spirit of the rainforest.
The space is evolving into a small sanctuary for creativity, conservation, and connection, a place where people can learn to live more gently with the Earth and enjoy listening.
Help
The work will depend on if you arrive in the wet or dry season. Right now I need help with carpentry, basic plumbing, and some routine home and garden maintenance. There will be simple home improvement stuff, if you have skills and experience for off grid living that's a bonus, let me know! We can spend time making crafts, planting and processing food. I'll be spending time exploring the property identifying plants, animals and keeping pathways clear, learning how to best take care of the land here. Mostly relaxed and simple living here. I am new to this home so I'm open to ideas and improvements if there's something you've been wanting to try out and some time to complete things. I'm slowly gathering tools and building materials and have the help of a great carpenter if you'd like to assist and learn a bit too. I will be building some enclosures as I volunteer helping with wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
I have travelled and been hosted as a workawayer and would like to create a nice exchange where we get done whatever is needed as it comes up more than a strict and intense work routine.
Depending on your personality and skills I'm sure we can find a balance that feels good. I'm happy to work with you if time allows or leave you to do your own thing.

Accommodation
Just a single person or couple is best if you are going to stay in the house. It's one small room connected to mine, we will live very close together unless you'd like the camp spot away from the house. There is a private cleared space to camp on the property if you prefer your own space and have camping gear. I can help a little with this too. This is an off grid home in the rainforest so be prepared for that! I live within nature so you will be a part of that, expect frogs, bugs, birds, etc
We will share the responsibility of cooking and food preparation, most produce will be local, minimal processing. I eat a lot of plants but enjoy some meats too. If you dont like to cook thats okay, we can discuss these things before your arrival, if you do love cooking, fermenting, pasta making etc we can make that part of your work hours if you're craving it.
There will be stocked cupboards, all of the basics you might need to help yourself to throughout the day. Let me know any dietary requirements you have so we can work together for you to feel comfortable.
What else ...
Kuranda’s a rainforest village full of character, markets, waterfalls, swimming holes and friendly locals. On your days off you can visit Barron Falls, explore Kuranda markets, take the Skyrail or train to Cairns, or just relax in the forest with a book or a swim.
I can usually give lifts into town, and there are buses and community car-shares if you want to explore further. If we are lucky with our timing we can go on some adventures together
Life here is simple, creative and close to nature. We live slow, share meals sometimes, and keep things easy.
Respect the land and keep things tidy.
Use eco products and go gentle on power (solar) and water (rainwater).
Quiet nights after 9 pm, sometimes the human and animals surrounding are noisy,
No drinking or substance use happens here.
Be kind, communicate openly, and enjoy the rainforest pace.
This is a calm, creative space for people to come and enjoy and take care.

Limited internet access

Can host digital nomads
The house is totally off grid, there is starlink to connect to, at this stage the solar set up is small, I can run things in the house and charge up electronics and small batteries, laptops etc but currently relying on the generator until the solar is functional. I'll update here as I make improvements. Feel free to ask questions if you have specific needs and we can discuss. It's a peaceful place to work if you are a little flexible.

Space for parking camper vans
I can host more than two if you are are self contained. The driveway access is very steep but short, 4WD access only and you'd have to be responsible to get in and out. Get in touch and let me know your if you think your set up can get you in, I know many are passing through the area exploring and I'd love to be able to say yes if you're confident!
