Tropical Paradise - Current openings starting January 2021. Prefer workers that have been on island at least 14 days (past quarantine period). Couples welcome. Come join us. Aloha
We are a small (4 acre) family farm located one block from the ocean on the Big Island (Opihikao area), which is one of the most tropical and abundant areas on the island. We have exotic fruit trees, as well as pineapple and vegetable gardens. While fairly remote and buried in the jungle, everything you need is easily accessible, with beaches, swim spots, farmers markets and local stores within walking or short hitch hiking distance. We go into town often (Pahoa and Hilo) and would be glad to drop you off. There are buses from Pahoa to Hilo and beyond. Close by there is Kehena Black Sand Beach (clothing optional) - 3 miles; New Pohoiki Black Sand Beach & Lava flow - 5 miles: Uncle Roberts Wednesday Night Market (entertainment and food) - 5 miles; and Hawaiian Sanctuary (Yoga, dancing, horticulture classes) - 6 miles. Pahoa town (grocery store and restaurants ) - 9 miles; Hilo (beaches, restaurants, mall and beautiful bay) - 35 miles and rest of the Big Island for exploring (e.g, zip lines, flume rides, 4 wheel adventure, water falls and beaches). Having a car for exploring the island is a plus.

We are seeking 2-4 adults (prefer couples) who are honest, hard-working, physically strong, healthy, happy, well-adjusted and ethical to assist in daily maintenance and improvement of our family farm, for 15 work trade hours per week (3 days per week) (8am - 1pm) in exchange for accommodation.
Food is not provided, except for occasional home cooked meals and produce from the farm community garden. Work includes weed whacking, weeding, fertilizing, harvesting, tree trimming, tree removal, as well as facility maintenance (e.g., pressure wash gutters, solar panels). In addition to work trade hours, you will be required to clean shared living areas one hour per week.
Your personal accommodations are a clamping style private tent (10'x12') with real queen size bed. You will share a large (20'x20') indoor kitchen with other helpers, including stove, refrigerator, dining and living area with TV (DVDs only). There is a large hot water lava rock shower, a composting type toilet and washing machine for your use. We do have limited internet access.
Past helpers have described there experience here as a little paradise of nature and quietness. You can take an early jog or late nite stroll to see the moon reflecting on the water.
