We are a Community Farm in the Serra da Estrela natural park. We are the guardians of 17.5 hectares of land that is a registered nature reserve.
We have a herd of 13 goats that need milking and walking, we make our own cheese and yoghurt. We have sheep and small pigs. We have chickens & ducks producing organic eggs and an organic garden for fruit, vegetables and herbs. There's also a family of 8 friendly dogs and 3 cats that keep us entertained, so a must for animal lovers!
We have plans for creating extra outdoor facilities from goat and chicken shelters, and outdoor kitchen for our community. So if you have some knowledge and skills in eco building with round wood then that would be perfect!
We live and work in community. Breakfast is self service and and we take turns cooking the lunch and evening meal to be shared in the main strawbale house.
You need to be relatively fit and able bodied to walk the goats for a couple of hours early morning or evening. The animal and bird shelters need to be cleaned once a week.
In June we need to harvest about 40Kg of Blueberries, along with other produce from the garden on an ongoing basis. All of this produce is stored for the communitys use throughout the year. Other tasks include land clearing and gardening.

We have two caravans for volunteers that are currently occupied. We can provide tents with a proper mattress, sleeping blankets, extra blankets and a hot water bottle! There are plenty of spots to bring your own tent or small camper.
The shared stawbale house is available during the day for indoor bathroom and kitchen.
There is no public transport near our location. We tend to visit the local shops by car once or twice a week. We are a 10 minute walk from the nearest village and cafe.
You can get a coach for 12 euros from Porto to get to Celorico Beira in 2.5 hours or from Lisbon in 4 hours. We can collect you from the coach station.
