    Description

We are a family with two boys(10&12) who enjoy the outdoors. In our free time we enjoy walking, bouldering and biking. We are a busy family, but are trying to make time for things like roasting marshmallows at the beach, picnics in the park and table tennis in the lounge.
We enjoy having company and getting glimpses into other peoples way of life and culture- especially for the boys as New Zealand can be a bit isolated in this way. We like having our meals together and would hope you are part of this.
Over the spring and summer months there is lots of camping space outside for you to stay, we can provide camping gear. However- in winter you would stay in our office with a double bed but this room is required by Graeme from 8.30-5pm. This means that only our large shared lounge/kitchen area is available for you during the day. We don’t mind this at all however, we want you to be aware that there is no ‘quiet private room’ to withdraw to during Graeme’s work hours.
We live 4 km out of Timaru connected with a bike trail along the coast- it takes about 30 minutes to bike to town.
Silke runs a little sourdough bakery in the shed and is keen to share bread making skills (or learn any special recipes from your home).

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Graeme is a Kiwi and Silke is German. Lukas and Jakob speak English and understand German. We have travelled a year in Europe enjoying different cultures and love the kids having exposure to that. We enjoy sharing this great piece of the earth with travellers. Having been an exchange student in my teens I have an understanding what a positive impact this sort of thing can have when you are away from home.

    Help

For the autumn and winter months we require help with planting trees/digging holes, mulching, weedeating. So someone who feels confident with this would be important .

During summer months We need help juggling the everyday things around the home. Jobs may include household tasks, engaging with the kids, gardening, cooking meals, small renovating projects.

Over spring and summer we offer a camping area for sleeping. However, we do hope you enjoy being part of our home the rest of the time, sharing meals and hanging out if you like.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We recently shifted to our new home at the beach and there is plenty to do on our little piece of land. Our project for winter/spring is planting native trees.
We are really interested in learning about permaculture and regenerating native plantings.
