    Description

We are a family with two boys(10&12) who enjoy the outdoors. In our free time we enjoy walking, bouldering and biking and skiing. We are a busy family, but are trying to make time for things like roasting marshmallows at the beach, picnics in the park and table tennis in the lounge.
We enjoy having company and getting glimpses into other peoples way of life and culture- especially for the boys as New Zealand can be a bit isolated in this way. We like having our meals together and would hope you are part of this.
Over the spring and summer months there is lots of camping space outside for you to stay, we can provide camping gear. Depending on Grames work situation you can also stay in our office/TV room which we only use occasionally for family movies.
We live 4 km out of Timaru connected with a bike trail along the coast- it takes about 30 minutes to bike to town.
Silke runs a little sourdough bakery in the shed and is keen to share bread making skills (or learn any special recipes from your home). .
We recently got a puppy, Bodie, who lives outside but we spend a lot of time playing, walking and hanging out with him.

At the moment we really would like some help with mulching our native trees before summer comes.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Graeme is a Kiwi and Silke is German. Lukas and Jakob speak English and understand German. We have travelled a year in Europe enjoying different cultures and love the kids having exposure to that. We enjoy sharing this great piece of the earth with travellers. Having been an exchange student in my teens I have an understanding what a positive impact this sort of thing can have when you are away from home.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We recently shifted to our new home at the beach and there is plenty to do on our little piece of land. Our project for winter/spring is planting native trees.
We are really interested in learning about permaculture and regenerating native plantings.
