    Description

    Aloha Workawayer!

Thank you for your interest in helping at our Institute, est. 1985. The Institute is the umbrella organization for many endeavors: the teaching of Embodied Spirituality; the production of music, meditations, and videos through Records; the practices of sustainability and permaculture of the Bamboo Farm, and education in the growing field of ecotourism via the Eco Retreat, which hosts people from around the world for individual or group wellness retreats.

Our program offers a unique experience in living in community, off the grid and off of the land. It has been a safe haven for many to come to Maui to learn and experience living ecologically and responsibly with Mother Nature. This is a quality time for deepening the awareness of the self and experiencing inner and outer wisdom ~ Awakening the Eco-Soul.

Our 3-month internship program has been host to Workawayers from around the world for over 20 years.
We enjoy hosting these stewards of our land, here to learn and serve. More than 800 people spanning the ages of 21 years old to 65 years young have participated in our programming. While we receive many requests, we can only welcome a few of you to share in this experience. Therefore, we require a completed application and will conduct an admissions interview with select candidates. If you are interested in our 3-month program, we welcome you to send a request for an application.

    Little Overview:
Our artistic and educational community is living ecologically and responsibly on 15 acres of sustainable land on the pristine North Shore of Maui. We are surrounded by 18 acres of cliffs and oceanfront. Our hiking trails lead to freshwater pools and 150-foot waterfalls. Yet we are only 20 minutes from Paia and Ho'okipa, the windsurfing capital of the world.

Powered by the sun, our generator pumps the sweetest water from our very own well. The rain fills our ponds. The earth is nurtured by our brood of 11 chickens and through conscious composting. Bees pollinate the flowers and plants in our organic food garden. We specialize in structural bamboo and feature unique and elegant bamboo housing. We offer an exquisite view of the ocean, lush tropical surroundings, and the teachings of the Institute. Bring your passion and skills and meet other participants in the internship program, who will become friends for life.

In addition to the teachings from the mentors, your work trade hours provide for a comfortable room, hot showers, high-speed wireless internet, phone service, laundry service, and a communal kitchen in a bamboo house with access to an expansive spiritual library. Several beautiful meditation temples allow space to deepen your awareness through yoga, Shamanic, and Embodied Spirituality classes. The work is demanding, but when your work is done, the time is yours to learn, play, or focus on what nourishes your spirit.

What you can contribute in order to participate in the internship program:

Experience an education in the fast-growing fields of eco-tourism and wellness travel through housekeeping, groundskeeping, landscaping, and maintenance projects. Learn what it takes to create a successful wellness retreat center from the ground up.

We appreciate experience in small repairs, computer skills, and office assistance. Certified yoga teachers and practitioners of the healing arts are welcome to share their gifts to our helpers and guests.

The 3-month internship is comprised of daily classes, coaching, meditation, and mentorship that bridge ancient teachings with modern science. You will learn the basics of sustainable living and innovative ways to care for Mother Earth. You will benefit from any additional classes taught by visiting guest teachers as part of the program. By joining our ohana, you will be experiencing Hawaiian culture from a local perspective. At the end of 3 months, you will receive a certificate of participation from the Institute.

    Next step:
If you would like to enroll in our 3 month long internship program, please contact us with a request for an application. We are looking for new volunteers to join the community for Fall/Winter 2019 into Spring 2020.
If you would like to come earlier, ask for an application with the request to be on the waiting list. Changes often happen. Trust if the spirit wants you to be here earlier... magic happens. We only accept interns that have submitted an application. We want to make sure your needs are met and you would fit into our artistic, spiritual community and you are ready to experience community learning and sharing.

We are looking forward to getting to know you and of course you getting to know us.

Please submit in English. Though Kutira speaks German, the rest of the team does not. Once we receive your request for an application, we will send you more information, videos, and website links that will assist you in finding out if we will be your future home for a while.

A hui hou! Bis bald! A bien tot! See you soon! Ciao!

Besides learning from the land, you will be exploring your inner landscape as well. We always have 6-8 people from around the world, and the friendships you make here will last the rest of your life. It is fun to get to know each other, learn from each other and yes, even fall in love with each other. We also have meditation temples to explore yourself, and we offer Yoga and Embodied Spirituality classes as well . This will be an inner and outer journey. If you teach Yoga or have any other gifts you would like to offer to the fellow helpers or retreat guests, you are welcome to do so.

Our day begins with community yoga, followed by time for a nourishing breakfast. Each morning, we gather in circle to discuss the immediate needs of our community and download lessons and wisdom of Embodied Spirituality and the Eco Soul. Or we spend time in our organic garden, learning to be a steward of the land for a sustainable future. Before lunch is time spent on various tasks of Karma Yoga.

After lunch, we turn our focus to the land, the 'Aina". Kutira channels her 30 years of knowledge and experience in permaculture and our native gardens. Christen our new Agroforestry Program, in it's initial stages, as we experiment in establishing food security.

At the end of the day, the time is yours to explore the land or your own inner landscape. We offer weekly programs in Shamanism and Soundbath Meditation sessions to aid in your spiritual growth and expansion, raising your vibration. Feed your mind with our vast spiritual library and meditation temples that are always at your disposal. Use our miles of trails to practice walking meditation on the way to bask in the healing waters of our private waterfall and ocean waters.

In the evening, we convene in our communal kitchen for individual dinner preparation. Participating in weekly community dinners, whether it be in the preparation or consumption, is a highlight of the volunteer experience. Share in music and conversation before retiring to your personal accommodations and comfortable bed, integrating all of the lessons of the day as you become your higher self. Sweetest dreams!
