    Description

    Hello everyone!
Winter is coming, which means it’s kiwi harvest time and also time to get the firewood ready! We’re looking for a WorkAwayer to join us for about 1–2 weeks. We’ll also need a hand with dog walks — our lovely 5-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog is super sweet, gentle… and absolutely loves shedding her fur!

Feel free to reach out if you’d like more information — we’d be happy to hear from you!

    Hello WorkAway community!

We are Antoine, Caroline, Basile (2018), Jean (2022) (and our cat Roquefort (2023) and dog Roxane (2020). We discovered the WorkAway platform two years ago. Since then, we've made unforgettable connections around the world: from Australia to Ireland, through Germany and Taiwan. What we particularly appreciate about this concept is that each new WorkAway experience brings something exceptional to our daily lives and reminds us of the richness of meeting new people.

    Our Hosting Style
We love sharing our home and lifestyle with Workawayers. Family time is precious for us, and with two young children (ages 3 and 7), our days can start early — our youngest often wakes up around 6 a.m., so light sleepers, please be aware :) We enjoy having meals together and also encourage you to feel at home, using the kitchen whenever you like.

    Accommodation
You’ll stay in our guest room, which also doubles as the children’s TV/playroom from time to time. It has a clean and comfortable sofa bed. The guest room is on the main floor, where you’ll also find the kitchen, living room, dining area, and a shared toilet. The main family bathroom is upstairs, shared with us. Our home is cozy, functional, and designed for comfort — but it’s countryside living, not city life.

    What We Offer

Shared family meals, with access to the kitchen for your own cooking or snacks

A warm, family-oriented atmosphere with a balance of togetherness and independence

A comfortable living space close to nature and the forest

    Transportation Insights
We live in Klingenthal, surrounded by forest. The bus service to Obernai or Strasbourg exists but is infrequent, so this placement is better suited for people who enjoy nature and the countryside rather than someone looking for daily city life.

    Our Expectations
We see the Workaway exchange as a friendly, neighborly relationship: interaction and shared moments, but with respect for independence on both sides. We ask for about 4 hours of help per day (around 20 hours a week). Tasks include:

    Walking the dog

    Helping with kiwi harvest

    Some gardening and weeding

Organizing wood for the heating system

Occasional painting or light maintenance tasks

If you don’t enjoy being outdoors or spending time in nature, this Workaway is probably not the right fit. But if you like forests, fresh air, family life, and good company — you’ll feel at home here.

    A little about us:
Antoine is 32 years old. He is a French-German national, a fan of "apéros", and a musician/singer. His creativity also shines in his professional work where he designs robots for neurosurgery! He is the man of the family, known and respected for his unparalleled kindness and benevolence. Curious, sociable, and enthusiastic, his secret dream is to one day participate in Survivor. In fact, he thinks he could win..

Caroline is 38 years old. She is a French-American national and has a deep respect for nature and authentic, kind human interactions. Listening to life story podcasts has recently become one of her favorite pastimes! Not long ago, she decided to stop her work as a middle school design teacher to teach yoga to adults. Her dream is to one day nourish her family primarily with vegetables and fruits from her garden.

Basile is 6 years old. He is a lively boy who loves spending time with his neighbors and friends. He enjoys biking, running, playing football, and jumping on the trampoline. Equipped with his walkie-talkie, he occasionally explores the area around the house, gradually experiencing the joys of autonomy and independence. He will challenge you to beat him at chess. His dream is to one day buy a drone and go quad biking with his friends.

Jean, the youngest member of the family, is 2 years old. He is a big boy, very tender and sociable. He is starting to develop a good vocabulary and knows how to make himself understood when asking for food. A fan of chocolate, raspberries, parmesan, and soccer, he will challenge you to kick the ball better than him!

    Antoine, Caroline, Basile, and Jean

Help We Need From Our Workawayers: Embracing Initiative and Creativity

As a family, we deeply value and encourage personal initiative and creativity in all tasks. We believe that every individual brings unique skills and ideas, and we're excited to see how you can contribute in your own special way. Here’s a rundown of the areas where we’d love your assistance:

    Woodworking & Heating:

Wood Logs: Your help will be needed in stacking, organizing, and cutting wood logs for our wood-burning heater.
Wood-Burning Heater Maintenance: Our home is cozily heated by a wood-burning heater, which requires lighting a fire in the morning and again in the evening.

    DIY Projects:

Bring your creativity to the fore in various DIY tasks like painting walls, sanding, polishing, and painting old or damaged furniture.
Vegetable Beds: We’re also looking to construct vegetable beds, so any experience or interest in this would be fantastic!

    Vegetable Garden:

We're planning to design a vegetable garden suited to our family's needs. If you have a green thumb or design skills, we'd love your input and assistance in making this a reality.

    Animal Care:

Meet Roxane, our 4-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog, a gentle and loving soul. While we enjoy our daily walks with her, there might be times when we’d appreciate your help in taking care of her.

    Kitchen Assistance:

Healthy, local eating is a cornerstone of our lifestyle. If you have a knack for cooking, especially vegetarian dishes, your help in the kitchen would be greatly appreciated. Let’s share recipes and create delicious meals together!

    Babysitting:

With two young children, an extra set of eyes, ears, and hands is always a blessing. Your involvement in babysitting would provide valuable support to our family’s dynamic.

We're excited to have you bring your own flair to these tasks, and we can’t wait to see how your presence enriches our home and family life.
