We are a married retired couple with a grown-up son and daughter We live in the village of Dornie, across the road is Eilean Donan Castle (the one in Highlander the movie was made in 1986 ) Our home is an old croft house on the shore of a sea loch in the West Highlands of Scotland. The castle is one of the most photographed castles in the world. Something to consider before travelling is that we are 200 miles (5-6 hours) North of Glasgow, and 75 miles (2 hours) West from Inverness, the journey is long but the scenery is spectacular, We need help to maintain the house, garden and often our historic wooden boats. We recycle old materials wherever possible and have to work to budget as no profit is made from these activities. Most of the tasks are outdoors, the weather can be very bad at any time of year so flexibility with volunteering hours is required.
We keep free range chickens and ducks, so there is usually no shortage of fresh eggs.
Thank you to all our workawayers for all the help and hard work you have provided.

Since the West coast of Scotland has very unstable weather, it is wise to bring some clothes that can be used in any weather.
Also if possible bring some clothes you are not afraid to get dirty and shoes or boots that can be used outside in bad and very wet condition, we may have some you can borrow depending on size. We need help with the boats this year and with the garden and any kind of general maintenance help you can provide us with. Also at the end of the first week, we can have a chat to see if you are happy and we are happy,
cabin, caravan or room in the house.
Free use of canoes/kayaks for exploring the sea lochs, subject to competency on the water. Free use of bicycles. Free Wi-Fi access. We don't normally cater for vegetarians, most of our meals include meat, however, breakfast is usually porridge with fruit and if those with special diets are able to prepare most of their own meals it should not be a problem.
Just a reminder that June, July and August can be wet and midges can be a problem this time of year. So please take this into account, a good repellent would be a good item to bring with you.
