Description
Currently I am looking for a person who can come to stay with us immediatly. You must have a driver's licence, be strong enough to dig holes to plant trees and be okay with helping with cleaning.
If you are looking to experience rural life in Canada come stay for a while with our family on beautiful Salt Salt Spring Island. We are an easy going welcoming family who likes to bring the world into our house. We feel through the workaway program our children are gaining valuable insights into other parts of the world as are we. We enjoy leaning about other peoples customs, experiencing their food and hearing about how they think and view the world.
For the spring and summer we have set up our pop up tent trailer so that workaways can feel like they have their own space, this space is liveable April until end of October. It has a double and a single bed and a dinning table in it. You would of course be sharing meals with us in the house and we would like you to consider our house your house, but we thought this would be a comfortable way to give workaways more privacy. During the winter months, if space permits, we do have a double bed in a private room overlooking the ocean for your use.
We are looking for a single person or a couple. There are so many things to help with around here that it is hard to pin point what is needed. Right now we need someone with very high organizational skills and some simple carpentry. We need to arrange our garage and move things from a room we will convert into a bathroom into the garage. Ideally you can drive a standard car.
We enjoy it when workaways show us some of their traditions or skills such as how to cook their favorite dish or play an instrument. You have to be someone who is very comfortable with working with teens and children. If you are good at motivating teens to help out, play board games, have any musical ability, love to cook, love to bike, love to hike, or love to swim that would be wonderful. Our 15 year old plays piano and our 10 year old plays guitar. Our 10 year old is very outgoing and friendly and our 15 year old is more introverted. Both love cooking so if you would be willing to teach them some of your cultures dishes that would be an asset.
We try to eat local and sustainable. I source much of our food from Salt Spring Island directly. We try to do a hike every weekend as a family. Sometimes we go on larger adventures overnight on Vancouver Island. We have family in Vancouver who we may visit form time to time. Our workway guests are of course welcome to join us on these outings.Types of help and learning opportunities

We love being hosts. We live in a small island community and you will interact with lots of other islanders. My husband works from home and I am in and out of the house all the time. We tend to buy most of our food from the island directly from farms so you will eat local food most of the time. I enjoy showing people our island and we often take trips to Vancouver, Victoria and other neighboring areas so you will see other parts of British Columbia if you stay with us for a while. Our house is by the ocean so you can go swimming, or paddle boarding. If you have a driver's licence you are welcome to use our car if we are not needing it to explore on your own.

You would be staying in a comfortable pop up tent trailer right outside our house for sleeping OR in a room inside with a queen bed and a sliding glass door to the outside OVERLOOKING THE OCEAN. The room is our teen sons who is away for school at the moment but may need it occasionally some weekends. The trailer has a heater, a single mattress and a double mattress, electricity and a table. There is a full bathroom in the house for workaways use and of course you will be sharing meals with us and expected to feel welcome in the main house. The tent trailer has a view of the garden and ocean. Our house is modern and on the ocean. It is beautiful here.
What else ...
We live on an island. There are many areas to hike and explore. Since we live on the ocean you can go swimming or paddle boarding. We have a second car which is standard which you can use if it isn't in use. The island is pretty safe and many people hitch hike to get around. There is also a bus. To get off the island there are three ferries and float planes. Vancouver and Victoria would make good day or 2 day trips.
