  Hello, we are a French / German family of four, our daughters are 8 and 9 years old. We moved to Portugal in 2020. The main language spoken in the house is English - we lived in the UK for 20 years - with a bit of German and French and the occasional Portuguese…the kids have long overtaken us with knowledge of the latter :-). I am an Artist working from home and Chloé is a Doula. We have a dog and two cats.

  We are a multicultural family speaking several languages, so if you want to learn German/French and Portuguese while surfing or carpenter-ing this could be ideal :-)

  Help

  We are mainly looking for help with the upkeep and renovation of the house. These are smaller things that just keep getting postponed. ;-). I used to be a carpenter so can teach you some skills but prior knowledge in woodwork and basic general skills would be good. If you are happy to help with general tasks around the house, walk the dog, help with picking up the kids from school etc. that would be great but is not a must. (There might also be times where we would be welcoming someone to help with general tasks only...) Workload will vary, I estimate about 3-4 hours per day. We can to an extent be flexible to accommodate for other activities like courses or part time work you would like to undertake, please just let us know when you apply if you think that might be an option.   It’s our guest room with a double bed, second small room with a single bed and ensuite bathroom with shower. High ceilings and period features. High speed internet is available. It's a good size for a single person or couple, Families are welcome, but we think a family of 3 is the absolute maximum accommodation wise.

  What else ...

  We live close to the beach in Matosinhos, a coastal district, just west of Porto, public transport to get into town is close by. It’s also a nice cycle ride down along the coast to Foz and then along the river into Porto. The Parque da Cidade do Porto which reaches from the sea inland is a 5 minute bike ride south and there are plenty of cafes and bars along the beach. The sailing harbour of Leça is just north over the bridge crossing the commercial harbour. We are (or we hope we are :-)) easy going. We are non smokers but have a nice garden which can be used :-). We are not vegetarian but consume little meat. We work from home and on a week day we usually get up around 7:15 to get the kids ready - no obligation to join but it will start to become noisy :-). We would welcome you to join our family life but if you prefer to live more privately that is also fine with us. We used to have aupairs years ago and are used to different personal preferences and ways of living together.
