    Ahoy adventurers,

I'm "Captain" Jack, a novice sailboat skipper looking for helping hands on deck. This opportunity would be best for people that have wanted to learn how to sail and all that the lifestyle entails. My sloop is a 1971 Morgan 28. The boat can technically accomadate 5 guests which would be a tight fit but fun in my opinion. 3-4 seems to be the perfect amount of people at once on the boat.

I'm a laidback guy and this voluteer arrangment would be relaxed.

UPDATE (July 24th, 2021) : Looking for Workawayers again starting August 5th. I'll be in Isle Royale. Then maybe sail to Apostle Islands in Wisconsin. Then last couple weeks of August starting the return journey from Lake Superior, through the locks in Sault Ste Marie on Lake Huron, down the west coast of Michigan all the way to Chicago.

I'm doing half of something called the Great Loop. Sailing down to Chicago from Lake Superior, unstepping the mast, and from Chicago to Mobile Alabama, a distance of around 1000 miles, will be motoring. Then from Mobile, step the mast and sailing to Key West Florida. Once I make it there I might stay in Key West or continue crusing through the Caribbean.

  • Accommodation

Guests would sleep in either the vberth, saloon conversion bed, starboard berth or a hammock outside. There isn't much privacy in these sleeping arrangments. Living on a sailboat like this is really just a level up from camping.

Ideally we will share meals that we cook together. I don't mind accommadating towards the diet of the volunteers. I was vegan for a number of years but now I'm more of a freegan flexitarian efficiency eater. I'd like to learn how to catch and cook fish so I might slightly favor volunteers that are into that idea. My boat is private and there won't be any paying guests.

    What else ...

When the boat is in the water time off is hard to define because you won't necessarily be working, you'd be helping me sail, which for the right person isn't work but rather a fun exciting adventure.
