Description
I am Árni, sheep farmer in the northeast of Iceland. I live on a farm on Þistilfjörður, and the nearest town is Raufarhöfn, about 8km away. I would love to get someone to stay and help around the house and explore its surroundings.
(Please note that I don’t need help with the farm!) -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
There is a lot of nature around, so hiking would be possible. There's a river, waterfall, mountains, and black sand beach on the farm. During the spring and summer, puffins can be spotted from the cliffs nearby. In summer and early fall, blueberry or mushroom picking is also an option. The nearby town has a swimming pool.
I had some workawayers staying on my farm and it was always a good experience. We had a fun time working together or exploring the area! If workawayers are interested, they can also learn about sheep farming or construction. -
Help
I just need some help with light cleaning around the house. I don't need help with the farm, but you are always welcome to learn about the tradition if you are interested. Sharing your favorite recipes or dishes is always much appreciated as well :) My son and my siblings sometimes stay for a few weeks (usually during the summer). There are also some other small projects I need help with depending on the season.

Accommodation
You would get a room for yourself and of course a bed. There are 3 meals a day and 2 coffee times and since this is a farm there is always enough to eat.
Note: It might be difficult to host vegetarians since fresh produce is not always available; it's a very remote corner of Iceland. -

Communication was a bit difficult at the beginning as I probably didn't ask enough questions about what was expected. However, after I asked once more, this was sorted out. I always felt very comfortable on the farm and the … read more
Arni’s family are very warm-hearted and interesting.
He came the airport over 2 and half hour one way for picking me up.
I stayed around 1 month in May.
They explained me when they need help. So everything is clearly.
I enjoyed Icelandic meal.
I was freedom to walk around and I saw many amazing Iceland … read more

Árni is a very friendly and funny guy and understands the concept of volunteering perfectly. I was never ordered to do something, he was always asking "what do you want to do now?", "could you...?", "is this ok?" and so on. The average ammount of work was totally reasonable and … read more
Unfortunately Árni was not at home, but we had so much fun with his dad Gunnar.
Our main task was to train the horses and help with cooking. The landscape is amazing. Directly at the beach with a waterfall behind the house.
Thanks for giving us this opportunity.
