    Description

    Dear Workawayers,

    Welcome to our profile!

We’re a new host, running a small hobby farm located just outside Amsterdam, in the beautiful Dutch countryside. A few years ago, I was a Workawayer myself, so I know how important it is to feel at home, appreciated, and part of the family - and that’s exactly the kind of experience we aim to offer you.

At the moment, we’re looking for one person, a couple, or two friends to help me and my mom with daily tasks around the farm and in the house. Our little animal kingdom includes chickens, sheep, cats, dogs, ducks, horses, and mini cows - so an animal-loving attitude is a must! 🐴🐶🐓

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

During your stay with us, you'll have the chance to experience everyday life in the Dutch countryside while still being close to Amsterdam - one of Europe’s most vibrant and diverse cities. I would love to show you around in this amazing city where I have been living the last 8 years. You'll get a glimpse into both traditional Dutch farm life and modern Dutch culture.

We love sharing our customs, local food, and stories about life in the Netherlands. We live a 15 minute walk away from the Zaanse Schans which is a popular tourist destination in the Netherlands. It's an open-air museum and historic neighborhood that offers visitors a glimpse into traditional Dutch life in the 18th and 19th centuries.

You’ll also learn about animal care, sustainable living, and (if you're interested) basic horse training techniques. If you want to practice Dutch, we’d be happy to help - but we also speak fluent English. We’re always curious to learn about your culture too, so feel free to bring your own stories, recipes, or traditions!

Preferably, you have some experience with horses - especially in training - but this is not a requirement. Most importantly, you're not afraid to get your hands dirty and you genuinely enjoy spending time with animals.

Typical Tasks You Might Help With:
    - Feeding the animals
    - Cleaning animal areas (stables, chicken coop, paddocks, aquarium, etc.)
    - Brushing and socializing the horses
    - Playing with our dogs, who always love attention
    - Weeding and watering plants
    - Cleaning the apartment and helping with the cats
    - (Optional) Do you have experience with social media or marketing? I’ve always wanted to start a channel for the farm but never had the time - maybe we can bring it to life together!

We’re flexible, so if there’s something you’re good at or would love to try, just let us know! We're always open to ideas and happy to create a experience that suits your strengths and interests.

    Accommodation

While my home in Amsterdam is being renovated, I’m temporarily living in a separate apartment right next to the main house on the farm. That’s where you’ll be staying too - you’ll have your own bedroom and private bathroom, and most of the time the apartment will be all yours, as I work full-time running my own company (usually from 7:00 to 16:00 or later). Two friendly cats live with me, so some help taking care of them would be greatly appreciated.

The apartment has everything you need to feel comfortable: a washing machine/dryer, a well-equipped kitchen, and plenty of space to relax and enjoy the peaceful Dutch countryside. We’ll make sure there’s always enough food and drinks stocked for you.

We’re located just 45 minutes from Amsterdam, a combination of a short bike ride and train journey - so you get the best of both worlds: quiet rural life and the vibrant city nearby!

My mother is a fantastic cook and will do her best to prepare meals for you as often as possible. With her Dutch-Indonesian background, she’s skilled in both Dutch and Asian cuisine. We also love to have barbecues together when the sun is out. We try to eat together as a family as much as possible. Yet, because me, my brother and my father are very busy running our own construction company next to the farm, this is not always possible. In this case, we’ll make sure there’s plenty of food and drinks available so you can cook for yourself. You're welcome to give us a list of ingredients you’d like, or you can join us on grocery trips to pick out everything you need.

Looking forward to meeting you and sharing our farm life with you! 🌿

    Warm greetings,
    Emmi

There are two cats living at the appartment, so your pet should be okay with cats. Furthermore, there are many other animals at the farm, please take that into account when bringing a pet!
