Description
Our program is a US-based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that addresses the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters by engaging and leveraging volunteers, partner organizations, and local communities. Our organization arrives early for the first response and stays late to rebuild schools and homes in a disaster-resilient way.
Since April 2015, we have been on the ground in Nepal, working with local organizations to support the communities affected by the Ghorka Earthquake. Our program is seeking volunteers to help with building two new disaster-resilient buildings and WASH facilities for a local school in Dudhauli municipality. These six classrooms will serve over 250 students.
We provide 3 meals a day on each working day and accommodation for the duration of your stay. We live in a communal house with 4-6 bunk beds in each room. Volunteers are responsible for all other expenses, including travel to and from Nepal as well as transportation to our base.
We do not have wifi so we recommend getting a local SIM card before arriving to the program.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Living and working in Nepal provides a rich cultural exchange. A local community is incredibly welcoming and is always wanting to teach you about their culture and learn from you. On top of a unique cultural experience, you will also gain new construction knowledge because we will teach you everything you need to know to finish specific tasks. So do not worry about not having previous construction experience.

Accommodation
Our accommodation is communal living on a base with seven rooms. Each room can accommodate around 4-6 people. You can also bring a personal tent for which we will provide you with some bedding.
We are in Dudhauli Municipality, living closely with the local community in the middle of rice fields.
What else ...
The bus journey from Kathmandu to our base takes about 5-6 hours. The closest largest cities nearby are Sindhuli and Hetauda, which are about 1.5 hours away from our base - these are often visited by volunteers during the weekend as they offer cafes, restaurants, hotels and other amenities.
