Description
We have a year round hobby farm with ancient horse breeds ( black forest horses), goats, donkey, dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits and ducks. We bought this place a few years ago and built my childhood dream of living in Canada in midst all the creatures I love. We are located right at the Cabot Trail and have the Margaree River right across the road. The back of our 65 acre property is partially pasture for the animals and mainly wild, untouched acadian moutain forest with an abundance of wildlife.
A beautiful and quiet sandy ocean beach is 5 minutes down the road.
It is surrounded by the Cape Breton highlands and close to the National Park in a rural and remote community. We live in an old farmhouse with very little modern comforts in a basic and simple way, sharing the house with cats and dogs of course.
It is a life with and around the care of animals, horseriding, walking, hiking, fly-fishing, swimming, cayaking, relaxing, firepit bbqs, music and working close to nature and straight from the heart.
A total getaway from citylife and modern life anxieties.Types of help and learning opportunities

Life on our farm is a throwback into the farm life of the early settlers.
With some comforts of the new age lifestyle...
It gives the opportunity to live withing a large variety of non commercial heritage breed farm animals, interact with them, learn about their natural behaviours and needs.
Most of the animals free range on the property and are treated with respect and dignity.
All this in the beautiful setting of the Margaree River Valley, close to the Atlantic Ocean and the National Park in a rural and remote community.
Work and vacation, beach, river and mountains, everything in one place.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
The main work of course is all around the animals. Feeding, helping with keeping stalls clean and maintained, fixing fences or gates, exercising the horses.
Horse riding is not optional for beginners, no lessons are given, very good riding skills are a must.
Depending on skills and interests any help with goat milking ( from May to September) and small amounts of homestead milk processing like cheese or soap would be much appreciated .
There is also a possibilty to just focus on carpentry or forest work to cut new trails into the forest on the property or work creatively around the barns, sheds and cabins on the property.
Seasonal gardening on a small scale would also be an asset...
Any work schedule will be individually negotiated, as it differs by month, season and range of skills.
An average of 3 hours a day for 5 days a week would be the base of discussion. We usually only offer a maximum of 4 weeks, because we like to give many travelers a chance to land and stay here for a while. Details can always be individually planned, depending on interests and skills.Languages spoken

1. Bedroom in the farmhouse, with shared use of bathroom and kitchen.
2. In summertime only: Bunky cabin with bed and table, use of kitchen and bathroom facility in main house.
Or lots of beautiful tenting options on the property if wanted.
Family meals will be provided or option for food self preparation can be arranged.
Everything is negotiable, open for any suggestions or ideas. What else ...
Supermarket, public library and tourist information are in walking distance. River tubing, paddle boarding, guided hikes and activity program in direct neighborhood.
We have our own kayaks and a canoe for river trips right from the property.
In winter there is a gigantic network of snowmobile trails all over the highlands to discover.
We would like people on our farm, who have a deep understanding for animals, nature and basic rural living.
We do have electricity, hot and cold water, shower, woodstove heating and HIGHSPEED INTERNET !!!!
So one step up from living in a cave...
We have no preferences to age or gender, but our facilty only has room and work for a maximum of 2 travellers at one time, all year round.
The entire property is smoke free, exept dedicated areas.
