    Description

Hello, I am Oytun, 38 years old. I live alone at the extreme edge of Datca peninsula, situated at the edge of Aegean Sea, southwest of Turkey. I maintain a 0.4 hectare of almond field (approx. 70 trees). My wish is to share the experience of this field with guests.

Travelers will be staying in one of the most beautiful area of Turkey. Not only will they be very close to most beautiful and undiscovered bays and mountains but also to one of the greatest ruins of antique Greek city Knidos.

The main acquisition that will come with the help itself is organic farming in an extremely arid area. So we’ll have to think together what can be done; sometimes we’ll get some insights from our neighbours sometimes we have to make some theoric researches and sometimes we’ll have to find a way by ourselves.

The field is situated mostly on a plate surface, has a square shape. It has a terrace of the size of its 1/5 part.

I am completely open to discuss the tasks.

The objective: To have a fertile and aesthetically beautiful land.

Here are the tasks of the fields:

1- Help cleaning the surface of the field: the field contains a lot of stones: we must manually cumulate the stones in some specific places in order to use them in the future for wall making/repairing. We should think not to restrain tractor path. This will take approximately … days with … persons

2- Taking some actions to protect the little trees from the tractor and boars: making some basic protective constructions around the little trees by wood, iron bar and barbed tape. This will take maximum 1 day.

2- Ploughing: I’ll organize a tractor and a farmer to plough the yard. We’ll have to supervise the farmer while ploughing. What to do with the harvested weed? Do we need some organic fertilizers before, after, while the plough? How many ploughing steps will we have? I. Digging up to 20 cm and cut the weed. II. Put the fertilizer and some beneficial seeds like broad been. III. Mix the soil with the mixing tool of the tractor. III. Flatten the soil with a tool of the tractor. IV. Define a diameter for each tree and apply a treatment (put stones, cut weed, fertilizer etc.).

3- Defining and applying rain water canals, traps and the 2 main field roads: the peninsula is too arid. We should catch and detain the rain water as much as possible under the field. We should take in consideration the existing trees, future trees, future roads and buildings. Places will be defined afterwards the work will be delegated to a digger. In the meantime, 2 main roads into the field will be prepared.

3- Pruning and eliminating old trees: we aim to help trees live and grove in health therefore some dead parts should have cut. In the meantime cut wood will be collected properly and bring to home to be used for heating. Some dead trees will be eliminated. We have two possibilities for their holes: keep the holes for rain water catching or plant some new plants. It should be decided earlier. The work will be organized upon the decision of delegate pruning to a farmer (in this case we’ll supervise the farmer by giving him clear directions) or doing the prune by ourselves (the number of electric saw we can get).

4- Repairing the walls: the field is circled by dry stone walls. They are not in a good shape. The walls should be repaired/done to be the baseline of a future fence. In this case we should consider to build cement/stone wall.

    Accommodation

My home is at five minutes by car from the field. I have one available single bed and can host only one person at home. The field doesn’t have electricity and water but is still available to camp. In this case, I can host up to 3 persons as soon as you get your tents. The dinner and shower could be done in the house and sleeping in the tents (sleeping in the house in rotation). I have a car that can be used for all travel operations.

Breakfast and dinner will be prepared by me and travelers in rotation or together.

    What else ...

Travellers will be 30 km far away from the city center. We are connected with some municipal bus and also I am going with my car every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; I can bring and pick up if travellers need. The house is located very close to a very small village, with a very beautiful panoramic sea and mountain view. The house is very small, it is 1+1. Traveller will sleep in the living room separated by a wooden separator unless they sleep in the field with their tent.
