    Description

hi, we are dave and lisa from uk/new zealand and we run a back packers and over landers lodge on the shores of lake malawi. we have been here since we built the lodge in 1993 and are looking for help running our kitchen and doing some shopping for the lodge. we live in a remote area near to chintheche in malawis northern region and all of our local staff are from the nearby tonga village of kande. malawi is often called "the warm heart of africa" and we call kande the warm heart of malawi! the people here are friendly and welcoming to us and to all our guests. our lodge is situated on a 12km stretch of fine white sand beach and a short distance off the lake shore lies kande island. we have an on site PADI dive centre and nearby there are stables housing beutifull horses where our guests can go for a ride through the local villages and finish with a swim in the lake. our kitchen caters for our guests and we offer a wide range of european and african dishes. we have good local staff doing the cooking and serving food to our guests and we are often in need of an extra hand in organising menus and supervising the kitchen staff as well as looking after the stock and supplying the kitchen from our nearby town.

at present we have a general manager to run the lodge as my wife and i wish to take a step back from the day to day runnung of the business (as we are 50 and 60 years old) so we would like someone to help our manager with the shopping trips and helping with the menus and supervising the staff in the kitchen. we are not busy most days but at weekends and holidays the kitchen can get busy. someone from a catering background would be an advantage but any knowledge of cooking basic dishes will do. also you would need an international driving license and be prepared to work flexible hours when the lodge is busy. experience with computer programmes is an advantage as sometimes we can need help with booking portals or web site, face book etc.

time off can be taken when we are not busy and theres plenty of activitys to be found in our lodge or in the local area. we have catamarans for sailing, a dive school for scuba diving, paddle boards and canoes to go over to our island only 800 meters off shore where you can snorkel to see the rare chilchlid fish in the clear blue waters of lake malawi. also nearby is horse riding and some lovely walks through the local villiages. 1 1/2 hours drive north there is a busy bay town where the lake ferrys dock and there are lots of other small lodges there.
