    Description

Experience the most pure, rural life of Costa Rica surrounded by primary forest and help a wonderful family.

Costa Rica has a few pure, authentic, rural places left which are not touched by the huge (eco)tourism or other businesses. Dos Bocas (Puntarenas) is one of these places. This little village is located in the Savegre area, up on a gravel road about one hour from the beach (near Hatillo). In this village live about fifteen families and they arrange a lot of things together. One of these families is the family Segura-Mora, one of the most happy, nice and heartwarming families you will ever meet.
Johnny, the father, is a farmer and knows everything about nature. Noemy, the mother, is a lovely women who will take care of you and cooks the best Costa Rican diches. Their two daughters and grandson will make you feel home for sure. They only speak Spanish, but they can make themselves very clear.
The finca of the family is located about 4 kilometers from the village (one hour by horse, 20 minutes by quad). This finca has about 150 hectares with pasturelands and primary forest with the most beautiful nature you can imagine. There are living incredible plants, trees and animals including lots and lots of birds. The finca also has nice waterfalls which you normally only can see surrounded by many tourists. It’s like a little national park, all for yourself.
The formal house of the family is located on the finca. This is the place where you sleep and I think that will make your experience the best one you can get. Living on the finca gives you the most amazing and peaceful feelings. You wake up with the sound of howler monkeys, who sometimes are really close to the house. Although you sleep on the finca, Johnny and Noemy and other families in Dos Bocas will certainly invite you at their homes.
Last year I was in Costa Rica. I had a lot of plans but when I met the family and saw the finca I had all I could have dream of. I stayed there for three months and it was without a doubt the best time in my life. Now I hope I can help the family with other volunteers.

On the finca the family has cows, horses and pigs. Their main business are the cows. Every morning cows get milked and a few times a week another herd has to be driven (on horseback or walking). There are a lot of other things the family is busy with. They have a kitchen garden, cacao trees, do reforestation projects, plant trees for fruit, and have lots of other things to do and ideas to develop the finca. There are also things you can help with at the families house, or in the village.
With all these tasks you can really help the family and make a positive difference in their lives. Once you started working with them, you will soon feel like one of their family.
