    Description

Introducing Joe and Sue – a teacher and researcher in our late 50’s early 60’s. Very easy going and have lived an alternate life style since the 1970’s. We live on a beautiful acre just on the outskirts of Nimbin town. We have a pocket of regenerated rainforest with two enormous figs and heaps of bangalow palms plus other rainforest species. We have a tiny veggie garden and flower garden which we wish to evolve into functioning, productive spaces. We recently built a seperate bedroom by sectioning off part of our shed on the property which has access to a toilet, kettle, toaster and fridge, so guests can cater for themselves without having to come into the main house all the time. Warm showers are in the main house and available whenever you like. Walking distance to Nimbin (3km) and use of pushbikes if needed. Lots of lovely swimming holes close by and Byron Bay is 1 hour away. We will feed you well and treat you to a few outings to local national parks and walks and are always eager for any music making. Basically you will love your stay here – Nimbin is a great town with lovely people.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Nimbin is a great area to explore and you are sure to meet a wide array of alternative people and have access to yoga, meditation, dance and other art events.
Joe works full time as a teacher at the primary school on Tuntable community which is a long standing community in the area so you will have access to learning more about community life. We lived on a community for 30 years before moving here which is semi-urban and can also tell you of our experiences.

We really need some help clearing out weeds from the rainforest - we have a lot of camphor laurels coming up and devils figs - then we would like to develop a walk through that area. We also require help with a new front garden we are establishing which will have a fishpond, flowers and vegetables. A lot of it is just muscle power and general labouring. We grow organically and do not use any insecticides.
We do also have some general house painting to do so the jobs are endless really.

    Accommodation

The accomodation has one double bed and one single. It is newly renovated and has a fan, heater, kettle and toaster. The toilet is in the adjoining part of the shed or in the main house is a composting toilet. Showers and meals will be in the main house and the bathroom can be accessed from the verandah. Breakfast food will be available in your own room so as you can have space in the morning as we often meditate first thing.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are many national parks and hikes close by which I could arrange to drive you to. Especially Mount Nardi where I could just drop you off for a few hours as it is only 15 minutes away. There are buses to Byron Bay and Lismore that run daily. There is a Permaculture garden in Nimbin that runs courses and events and Nimbin itself hosts the Mardi Grass Festival in May and other entertainment events regualarly.
