Description
Hello! Welcome to Belle Isle Acres! We are 1 mom, 2 older teens, 1 sweet dog, and 7 chickens!
Our home is located on 16 forested acres, has a beautiful view of the valley, is quiet, comfortable, spacious. Whitehorse, Haines Junction, Kusawa Lake, and Kluane National Park are within a 30-45 minute drive. Hiking, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, skating, canoeing, bird watching can all be enjoyed nearby depending on the season. Our local Community Centre hosts regular social and recreation events all year long, including weekly Yoga classes.
We've been hosting helpers, and travelling musicians since 2016 and every time has been a joy! (We took a break from hosting between 2018-2023). Often our first helper of the year decides to stay the whole season! Yes - it's a risk... you may love us and never want to leave!
A little about us:
Katanne is a functional nutritionist, she has a consulting business and is working towards an B&B for people seeking respite from their hectic lives while healing their gut problems.
Katanne also manages a health store in Whitehorse, and her daughters both have part-time jobs.
We would suit a person who enjoys Nature, a quiet country life, eating/ living/thinking healthy, and likes the kitchen OR/AND if you have any painting, mechanical or carpentry skills! My one daughter is a blooming mechanic and would love any learning opportunities if you have skills there!
We are an open, honest, direct family that values hard work, cooperation and integrity... though we are also easy-going and goof around a lot!
We enjoy learning from our travellers too. Do you have interests in art, music, language, gardening or other skills you'd like to share with us? We love to learn about other places. We are working on our Spanish, French, Ukrainian and Russian. Story-telling and joking around at our home is also strongly encouraged.... (though we love a quiet introverted person too.)
Guests can stay in our cozy and private wall-tent cabin (summer) or separate indoor guest suite (winter). We have all normal amenities including plumbing, electricity, laundry, etc. We are flexible and supportive of your travel plans and can accommodate most dietary needs. Much of our food and medicine is organic or collected from the land, and we are happy to share healing knowledge and skills.
We look forward to hearing from you.
PS We prefer helpers that can stay a minimum of 2 weeks when possible. Thank you.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Well, we hope to introduce you to the great wild Yukon from a comfortable, safe, and friendly location! We love to share stories and want to hear yours. We are also passionate about health and well-being through natural and sensible paths, and happy to be inspired by you, or to help you to become a healthier happier version of you.

Help
The type of tasks we need help with vary. I am managing a health store in Whitehorse, and my daughters are at school or home. We can sometimes be away for 10 hours a day 3-5 days a week. Therefore, taking care of the animals, keeping the house tidy and helping with dinners are a priority on these days.
There are lots of indoor and outdoor jobs to pick from depending on the season: gardening, walking the dog, keeping the chickens fed and happy (we have baby chicks in June) and always indoor/outdoor renovation projects.
If you enjoy being around healthy people, gardening, cooking, renovation/building projects, healing arts, hunting, foraging, caring for animals, and interacting with community, you'll likely enjoy your time here.

Accommodation
Guests can stay our cool wall tent cabin or the guest suite above the workshop (separate) . Our home has all normal amenities including hot water, plumbing, electricity, etc! We have wifi and cell phone coverage is usually good.

What else ...
We are travelers ourselves, so we are flexible and supportive of your travel goals and can recommend or even help you organize some great trips. We also accommodate most dietary needs, however we do rely heavily on nutrition from animal products - it's what is most natural and affordable in the north. That said, we grow, farm, or collect our food and medicine from the land as much as possible and otherwise eat real foods. We're not keen on refined/processed snack foods, so bring your own if that is something you like to have.

Limited internet access

We have pets

We are smokers

Can host families

Can host digital nomads
We have recently got rid of our wi-fi in favour of using our cell phones (Bell). Connection is strong, dependable and speedy. While I can hotspot you at times, you would be better off with your own internet plan.

Can possibly accept pets
We can accept calm and well-behaved dogs. No cats (allergies)
