    - Join for Guest Relations or Social Media Role

We’re a small, friendly guesthouse in Paje, Zanzibar (Ebb & Flow) with a partnered watersports center (Aquaholics). Our place has 12 rooms, a relaxed social vibe, and a steady flow of ocean-loving travelers. We’re two minutes from the beach and a short walk to cafes and shops. Day to day, our team connects guests with surfing, kitesurfing, wingfoiling, SUP, yoga, diving, and local tours—plus simple social events back at the house.

What we’re building is a welcoming base for active travelers: easy community, clear info, and fun, safe access to the ocean. We value good communication, initiative, and a positive, down-to-earth attitude. The team is small and hands-on, so everyone helps where needed and keeps the vibes warm and organized.

Workawayers join our crew to help guests feel at home, keep information flowing between the guesthouse and the beach crew, and support the rhythm of the season. In exchange, you’ll get a supportive environment, breakfast and lunch, time to explore the island, and a front-row seat to Zanzibar’s watersports scene. If you’re independent, social, and ocean-curious—you’ll fit right in.

You’ll be living right in the heart of Paje, a lively coastal village on the east coast of Zanzibar. This is a place where Swahili culture meets the global watersports community—so you’ll get a mix of local traditions, food, music, and daily life alongside surfers, kiters, and travelers from all over the world.

You’ll work closely with our friendly local team and have plenty of opportunities to learn about island life, Swahili phrases, and the rhythms of the ocean. Outside of your volunteer hours, you can join watersports activities, explore the island’s spice farms, visit Stone Town, or simply enjoy the beach life.

We encourage volunteers to join in on our social events and local outings, so you’ll have the chance to connect with both the local community and an international crowd.

We currently offer two Workawayer roles:

    1. Guest Relations Workawayer
You’ll be the friendly face of the guesthouse—welcoming guests, answering questions, and making sure they have all the info they need to enjoy their stay. You’ll also:
    - Organise and join social activities (BBQs, game nights, casual outings)
    - Coordinate with our Watersports team 2 days a week on the beach (help with guest check-ins, gear, and schedules)
    - Be present and social at the guesthouse during mornings, afternoons, and evenings
    - Keep communication flowing between guests and the team

    2. Social Media Workawayer
You’ll run our social accounts and help us share our story online and keep our community engaged. This includes:
    - Capturing photos & short videos of guesthouse life, activities, and the island
    - Posting on Instagram/Facebook according to our content plan (training provided)
    - Adding fun, relevant stories to keep followers updated
    - Helping with creative ideas for reels, posts, and campaigns

    For both roles:

    - Approx. 25 hours/week with flexible scheduling
    - Some days are structured (beach shifts or posting deadlines), others are flexible depending on guests and activities
    - We’re looking for independent, proactive people who enjoy meeting new people and keeping the vibe warm and welcoming

You’ll stay in our staff house in Paje, just a short 8-10 minute walk from the guesthouse and beach. The staff house is shared with some of our watersports staff, so you’ll be part of a fun, social, and international crew.

The volunteer room is a shared female room with basic but comfortable furnishings, a fan and shared bathroom. The house has a small kitchen for preparing your own meals in the evenings, and we provide breakfast and lunch daily. There is also a living room and garden. The property is walled in which makes it a secure home.

Living with the watersports team means you’ll be in the heart of the action, with plenty of opportunities to join activities and enjoy the island lifestyle.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

On your days off, you’ll have plenty of time to explore Zanzibar’s east coast and beyond. Paje is famous for its kitesurfing, surfing, and relaxed beach vibe, with plenty of cafés, restaurants, and shops nearby. You can also take day trips to Stone Town (a UNESCO World Heritage site), spice farms, Jozani Forest to see the red colobus monkeys, or enjoy snorkeling and diving at the nearby reefs.
Transport is easy — local dala-dala buses run between villages, and shared taxis or private drivers are available for longer trips. You can also rent a scooter or bicycle for more freedom to explore at your own pace.

To enter Tanzania as a volunteer you need a 3 month business visa which you get on arrival at the airport for 250$.

There is Wifi at the guesthouse that works very well for Zanzibar Standards. Mobile hotspots also work well. This role is not ideal for full-time digital nomads with fixed work hours, as it involves being present and available to guests at flexible times throughout the day. You’ll have plenty of free time, but the focus is on engaging with guests, joining activities, and creating a welcoming atmosphere — so being “around and involved” is part of the experience. If you do some remote work on the side, that’s fine, as long as it doesn’t interfere with your volunteer hours or being available when guests need you.
