  • Description

We are an English family, who moved to Normandy in August 2013. We bought a farm in Saint -Lo in December 2013, and are in the process of renovating this from an old dairy farm, into a first class Showjumping competition yard for our team of Showjumping horses.
We have approximately 25 horses, some for breeding and some for competition, and our business involves the breeding, production, competition and and sales of top class competition horses. We have a lovely property with 12 hectares of land, and various outbuildings, including a newly furnished 2 bedroom gite (apartment) and main house. We are both in our thirties, and have an 12 year old daughter, Hannah, as well as 3 small ( very friendly) dogs.

  • Help

At the moment we have a need for people with experience of building! Or manual workers who can help us with all the various building and labouring jobs around the property. We are extremely open with regards the work options available. We would be happy to have upto 3 or 4 people at once, although they would have to share the 2 bedroom gite, so would ideally be a couple or friends. Single travellers are also welcome. There are so many different jobs available that we can accommodate a variety of skill sets, from gardening, to help in the house with general cleaning. Painting/decorating to general maintenance, fencing and building work. Also, someone with an equine background, or knowledge of handling horses or a desire to learn, would be very helpful and could help with horse related duties. We have lots and lots of building projects to do on our house and farm, and we are trying to make our property as environmentally friendly as possible, with plans to install ground source heating, solar panels etc. although there is lots of opportunity to work with the horses (if this is your preference), we cannot provide riding for workaway's, due to the required continuity of the horses work, and high value of the competition horses.

Saint Lo is centrally located in Normandy, with the Normandy landing beaches being 30 minutes drive away. There are many beautiful areas in the vicinity, including the monastery at Cerisy la Foret (5km away) the Cathedral town of Bayeux (20km away), the Forest at Cerisy is over 1000 acres with cycle tracks, beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife etc. The city of Caen is 40 minutes drive, the beautiful town of Deauville is just over 1 hours drive, and the stunning historic site of Mont Saint Michel is also within 1 hour drive. There is a train station in Saint Lo, from where you can be in Paris in approximately 2 hours.
The town of Saint Lo has good amenities, bars, restaurants, a good selection of shops and supermarkets. Our farm is based within a village, on the edge of the town of Saint Lo. From the farm, it is possible to walk to the village shop, and the bar/restaurant in the village is less than 200m away.
