Description
Hi everyone! We are a South African family that lives in a beautiful, coastal town of Northern Mozambique called Nacala. We petitioned and successfully created a Marine Protected Area to conserve the reefs and corals in the ocean space in front of our property. Because it is such a big project, we have volunteers with all different types of backgrounds that help us with various aspects of the project like conservation, research and social media marketing and spreading awareness.
At the moment were looking for a manager that can assist us with coral planting, surveys and managing our group of volunteers. Our accommodation is right on the Indian Ocean, so if you join us, be prepared for constant views of stunning turquoise water, tropical fruits and (very) hot beach days! We have two wonderful sons (14 and 11) and three dogs. We also love to fish, and have a couple boats, so if that is something you are interested in, we would be happy to take you with us on a fishing trip. If any of this sounds good to you then please reach out. We can't wait to hear from you!Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Nacala is a great place to have a truly authentic Mozambican experience. While you are here, you will have the opportunity to meet lots of local people, explore traditional villages, and be immersed in the true Mozambican way of life. We would be happy to show you around on your days off, bringing you to local markets where you can buy anything from fresh mangoes to traditional clothing. While you are here you can also try local dishes, including some truly amazing seafood! There are also opportunities for you to learn Portuguese from some of our staff, if that is something you are interested in.
Help
We are looking for a manager who can stay at least 8 weeks and is knowledgeable about marine life, marine conservation, maintaining and gathering data in a Marine Sanctuary. At the moment, we are setting up a grid in the coral reefs so that we can take underwater pictures to monitor the marine species and track coral growth. We have a coral nursery and are building coral structures to increase the growth of corals in the sanctuary. You will also assist the other volunteers raising awareness about our project, setting up social media pages and helping us with online campaigns to raise funds.

There are many different accommodation options on our property. We have private en suite rooms and dorm rooms for two people. Other volunteers/couples or groups can stay in a private 2 bedroom guest house that is next to the main family house, directly on the shore. The house has its own living room, kitchen, bathroom and terrace with views right onto the Indian Ocean. We also have a private two bedroom unit, which has a kitchen, living room, pool table, and closed in veranda overlooking the ocean. This unit has a space to barbecue if volunteers would like. Each bedroom has a private bathroom and an AC/ mosquito net. The dorm units consists of two en suite rooms with three single beds each.
We provide volunteers with everything they need for a comfortable stay like basic toiletries and beach towels. The volunteer house does have WiFi, but we suggest buying a local sim card which is very cheap and has a strong signal on the property.
On the weekends, we often have barbecues and communal dinners, where volunteers are welcome to attend. What else ...
