Description
We are a free, community-based, and self-managed school project.Our purpose is to help build happy childhoods, nurturing curiosity and a genuine desire to learn. We have been operating since 2017 in the town of San Fabián de Alico (5 hours south of Santiago), a small town in an inspiring natural surrounding, with native forests and a beautiful river.
The project has developed organically, growing in response to the needs of the families that make up our community. We began with four families, including four children, with mothers and fathers directly accompanying their sons and daughters in the educational space. Today, the community consists of 27 families, with a total of 38 children who actively participate in the school.
Our educational organization is structured into four groups:
• Fen Group (ages 3 to 6)
• Choyün Group (ages 7 to 8)
• Rayen Group (ages 9 to 10)
• Aliwën Group (ages 11 to 12)
Each group has a teacher in charge, who supports learning processes according to the characteristics and rhythms of each developmental stage. We also have a gym, music and English teachers.
Our main objective is for children to acquire meaningful learning experiences, become familiar with their environment, and maintain direct and respectful contact with nature. The project promotes holistic development through diverse artistic and creative expressions, encouraging cooperation, personalized learning, and self-care.
The school operates and holds classes from March through December.

Somos un proyecto de escuela libre, comunitaria y autogestionada. Buscamos construir infancias felices y con ganas de aprender. La escuela funciona desde el año 2017 en el pueblo de San Fabián de Alico (5 horas al sur de Santiago). Es un pueblo pequeño en un entorno natural muy inspirador, con bosques nativos increíbles y un rio hermoso.
Nuestro proyecto ha tenido un desarrollo orgánico, y su crecimiento ha sido acorde a las necesidades de las familias que lo conforman. Iniciamos con 4 familias, integradas por 4 niñas y niños, siendo las madres y padres quienes acompañaban directamente a sus hijos e hijas en el espacio educativo.
Actualmente, la comunidad está conformada por 27 familias, con un total de 38 niñas y niños que participan activamente en la escuela.
Contamos con cuatro grupos educativos:
• Grupo Fen (3 a 6 años)
• Grupo Choyün (7 a 8 años)
• Grupo Rayen (9 a 10 años)
• Grupo Aliwën (11 a 12 años)
Cada grupo cuenta con un/a profesor/a a cargo, quien acompaña los procesos de aprendizaje de acuerdo con las características y ritmos de cada etapa.
Nuestro objetivo principal es que las niñas y los niños puedan adquirir aprendizajes significativos, conozcan su entorno y estén en contacto directo con la naturaleza. El proyecto promueve el desarrollo integral a través de diversas expresiones artísticas y creativas, fomentando la cooperación, el aprendizaje personalizado y el autocuidado.
El período de funcionamiento y clases es de Marzo a Diciembre.

Over the years, we have informally welcomed families who have taken part in exchanges for a few weeks or months, as well as volunteers who have worked with the children in our project. Based on this experience, we decided to create this Workaway profile in order to formalize both forms of participation and to reach a wider range of people interested in becoming part of our educational community.
We are interested in hosting families who wish to take part in a school exchange, participating for a period during the academic year. We consider it highly valuable for the children in our project to interact with peers from different nationalities, languages, and cultures, as this broadens their worldview and strengthens respect for diverse ways of life.
Additionally, we are interested in welcoming individuals with experience working with children who would like to facilitate workshops or support teachers for a defined period of time. The possibilities are open and adapted to the interests and skills of each volunteer, expanding learning opportunities within the school community. This experience is also enriching for our teachers, as it allows for exchange with peers from other parts of the world, with different methodologies and approaches to education

Durante estos años de funcionamiento, hemos recibido de manera informal a familias que han participado en intercambios por algunas semanas o meses, así como a voluntarios que han trabajado con las niñas y los niños del proyecto. A partir de esta experiencia, decidimos crear este perfil en Workaway con el fin de formalizar ambas modalidades de participación y ampliar el alcance a personas interesadas en ser parte de la comunidad educativa.
Queremos recibir familias que deseen realizar un intercambio en la escuela, participando durante un período del año escolar. Consideramos altamente valioso que las niñas y los niños del proyecto puedan relacionarse con pares de otras nacionalidades, idiomas y culturas, ya que esto amplía su visión del mundo y fortalece el respeto hacia diversas formas de vida.
Por otra parte, nos interesa recibir personas con experiencia en trabajo con niños, que deseen realizar talleres o acompañar a los profesores durante un período determinado. Las posibilidades son abiertas y se adaptan a los intereses y habilidades de cada voluntario, ampliando las oportunidades de aprendizaje de la comunidad escolar. Asimismo, esta experiencia representa un estímulo para los profesores, al permitir el intercambio con pares de otras partes del mundo, con distintas metodologías y formas de trabajo.

Help
We are looking for people interested in facilitating workshops or sharing knowledge in specific areas, who can work with the group of children considered most appropriate. Some examples of possible workshops include theater, mural painting, robotics project development, construction of playground games, support in English classes, sports workshops, laboratory experiments, among others. The possibilities are wide-ranging and depend on the interests and experience of each participant.
Families who wish to take part in this exchange are required to collaborate in school cleaning tasks (limited to some classrooms) once during their stay, a requirement that applies to all families who are part of the community. There are other requirements depending on the time of the exchange, we will discuss further details during the interview.

Buscamos personas interesadas en realizar talleres o compartir conocimientos en áreas específicas, que puedan trabajar con el grupo de niñas y niños que se estime más adecuado. Algunos ejemplos de talleres posibles son: teatro, pintura de murales, desarrollo de proyectos de robótica, construcción de juegos para el patio, apoyo en clases de inglés, talleres deportivos, experimentos de laboratorio, entre otros. Las posibilidades son amplias y dependen del interés y la experiencia de cada participante.
Para las familias que deseen ser parte del intercambio, se solicita la colaboración en labores de aseo de la escuela (solo algunas salas) una vez durante la estadía, requisito que aplica a todas las familias que forman parte de la comunidad. Existen otros requisitos dependiendo el período de estadía, los cuales se conversarán durante la entrevista de postulación.

Accommodation
For those who wish to take part in a workshop-based volunteer experience at the school, we offer accommodation in a small, fully equipped cabin with a private bathroom and kitchenette.
For families participating in the exchange program, we offer free accommodation in a small house for stays up to two weeks.
For volunteers that come work with us in the school, we provide ingredients for breakfast and we share lunch together.

Para las familias que participen en el intercambio, ofrecemos de manera gratuita la posibilidad de alojar en una casa pequeña por un máximo de dos semanas.

If you are interested in volunteering and facilitating workshops at the school, an online interview will be conducted, and you will be asked to submit your curriculum vitae (CV) along with information about your previous experience.
If you are interested in participating in the exchange program and having your children enroll as students at the school, we will schedule an online meeting to present the project in greater detail and to answer any questions related to this program.
Many of the families that are part of this project are also host in their houses, so we are familiar with the work with volunteers.

Si te interesa participar en el intercambio y que tus hijos o hijas se integren como estudiantes a la escuela, agendaremos una reunión online para presentar en mayor detalle el proyecto y resolver dudas relacionadas con este programa.
Muchas de las familias que forman parte del proyecto de esta escuela, tambien son anfitriones de voluntarios en sus casas, por lo que estamos familiarizados con el trabajo con voluntarios.
