    Description

Currently looking for volunteers for spring/summer/fall 2025!

    Hi!
We - Josh & Siri - are a couple in our 30s, living in Flisa, Norway.
We have just bought (and are in the process of moving into) a small farm, and we are so excited to start this new journey!
We would love to have some help over the summer with various tasks like animal care, starting a new vegetable garden, building enclosures for the animals, etc.
We will be planting fruit trees and berry bushes, and keeping chickens, ducks, geese, and rabbits. We also have three cats and two large dogs.
The area we're in is great for people who enjoy peace, quiet, and spending time in nature - there are lots of great hiking opportunities here, and we are very close to Norway's longest river.
While Siri is Norwegian and has lived most of her life in Norway, Josh is from Wales and has lived in Norway since 2020. In our house, we mostly speak english, so any english-speaking visitors
    will fit right in!

    We are LGBTQIA+ friendly 😊❤️

    ===========
    IMPORTANT!!!
As we have two VERY BIG dogs, it's important that you are familiar with large dogs, and that you are comfortable and calm around them. They are both very social and love to meet new people, but because of their size they can be intimidating to people who are not used to dogs.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We can help you learn some Norwegian, and Siri will happily teach you to knit, crochet, embroider, or sew - or spend hours discussing plant care, gardening, or the genetics of chicken colors.
We can take you around our area and show you some historical sites, and teach you about the history of the area and the country.
Siri's mother and stepfather (also hosts!) live very close, and are very knowledgeable about places to visit and things to see in our area, as well as the rest of the country. They love to travel, and will happily tell you stories about their trips, and give you ideas for your future travel plans.

Some help with cooking/housework is always appreciated!

    Accommodation

We will have a guest bedroom set up for your use. The bathroom/kitchen/living room you will have to share with us.
As long as we are home, all meals will be shared, and we will make sure to fill up the fridge and freezer if we won't be home.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is no public transportation to/from the house, but if you want a day out we can drive you to Flisa, which is about 10km away. Flisa has a bus station with buses going down to Kongsvinger or up to Elverum about every hour. From Kongsvinger you can easily get to Oslo, or further south, from Elverum you can get to Hamar/Lillehammer and further north.
You can also take a bus or train from Kongsvinger and across the border to Sweden.
In our area, there are plenty of hiking trails and beautiful forests to explore, lakes to visit for fishing or swimming, a few stores within walking distance, and buses to take you anywhere else you wish to go. We recommend taking a day to explore Kongsvinger fortress!

As we have birds, rabbits, cats, and dogs, the well-being of our own animals needs to come first. If you are travelling with an animal, it is very important that it will not chase the birds, rabbits, or cats, and that it will get along with our dogs.
