Rolf and I have bought an acre in Cornwall close to the Eden Project. The garden had not been touched for over 20 years so was very exciting to explore and we discovered all sorts. We bought the place for the garden as my previous work with males and their children who had experienced domestic abuse had left me feeling very concerned that people did not want to recognise men could be victims. We struggled to find facilities to meet the males with their children. Then on the other side men who lived in shared houses or bedsits could not have their children over night due to their circumstances unless they paid out for hotels etc.
We would like to build an earth house and sensory garden. We have to do what we can in our spare time around work so any help is always welcome. There is soo much to do from just cutting brambles to building sheds and outhouses.
Rolf and I both work full time and some to fund the project, we do not have any external funding so we have to try and do most of the work ourselves and with friends support.
We are 5 minutes form the Eden Project, within half of an hour from many beaches, the lost garden of Heligan, st austell, truro and much more.
We have lots of wildlife in and around the area with almost daily visits from the local deer. We have kept a small patch of ground overgrown for the deer, they often sit in there.
We have a greenhouse and polytunnel that we are hoping to start growing bits in.

DIY and building projects
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
The Eden Project is within five minute drive or there us a cycle and walk route from our house. There is an opportunity to leave your individual stamp and be creative with garden and earth house. There are a lot of learning opportunities within the area around the Eden Project.
We are trying to create a sensory garden with rooms that can be used during the day for therapies and at weekends for Dads to have visits with their children. So far we have a yurt, a gypsy caravan and two touring caravans. The yurt is almost finished and ready for use, just purchased a solar panel for it. The gypsy caravan needs a bit of painting and a couple of bits adding. One tourer is usable but could do with some work the other still needs gutting. We would like to build an earth house too, hopefully starting this is July. We have already built a thingy hut (this is a toilet, shower room and small kitchen) for the yurt earth house and gypsy caravan to share. We need knowledge and physical help to build and earth house as we have no knowledge or experience at all. We could also do with some general support with bits around the garden and renovating bits. We need help with a very large variety of things, from hedging to building to weeding and erecting sheds. Other workaways have helped just by cooking the evening meal leaving us free to do outdoor work.
We can offer accommodation in the yurt, gypsy caravan or tourer with food in exchange for help. We have a very crazy old dog that does not get on with other dogs sadly so can not have other dogs here.
We would be happy to accommodate a weekend to a month and happy to negotiate days/times of work. All food and drink will be provided on work days.

We could accommodate in the gypsy caravan, yurt or caravan. Yurt and caravan have electric the gypsy caravan not yet. There is a toilet, shower room and kitchen available for all three to use. It is a working site so will need dirty clothes and wellies and bags of energy. We can provide basic breakfast and lunch and evening meal items that can be made up in the kitchen and workawayers can join us for meals on our non work evenings. We have plenty of space for campers and tents.
There is plenty of parking within the garden. There is a small village shop and post office and chip shop a few minute walk away. The bus stop is a few minute walk away by the shop. There are a large choice of beaches near by, lots of country and coastal walks and cycle routes. There are many attractions near by and coastal villages to explore.
We like to be outdoors and enjoy the local beach, we have kayaks that guests can use.
