    Description

We are a Bolivian non-profit founded in 1994, based in Tarija in the south of Bolivia. For over 30 years, our mission has been to support children and families living in vulnerable situations through social, educational and community-based programmes.
Our team of 20 dedicated staff works year-round alongside volunteers and local partners who share our commitment to social change. Together, we welcome more than 500 children and their families every year at our centre on the outskirts of Tarija.
Day-to-day, our work includes educational support, a social canteen, a day-care centre, a shelter for young girls who are survivors of violence, urban gardens, and skills workshops for local women and youth.
Everything we do is rooted in human dignity, social justice, community participation and empowerment. We believe education goes far beyond the classroom — it means awareness, health, autonomy and the right to a better future.
Volunteers joining us become part of a warm, committed team making a real difference every day. 🌱

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Volunteering is much more than a simple stay abroad — it’s a true human and cultural exchange.
For more than 20 years, our centers have welcomed volunteers from all over the world, and each of them has left a trace — through their ideas, experiences, energy, and friendships.

Our team loves to share and exchange: discovering other cultures is as important to us as making our own known. We take pride in introducing volunteers to Bolivian traditions, the Tarija region’s warm culture, its music, food, and daily life. You will be invited to share meals, stories, laughter, and sometimes even local festivities or family gatherings.

In return, volunteers bring new perspectives, creative ideas, and cultural diversity, which enrich our projects and inspire both the staff and the children. Over the years, this mutual learning process has become a key part of our identity.

Through this experience, you’ll have the chance to:

Deepen your understanding of Bolivian social and educational realities,

Improve your Spanish in an immersive and supportive environment,

Participate in meaningful community projects, and

Build strong, lasting connections across cultures.

Every exchange counts — we believe that by learning from one another, we can build a more just and compassionate world.

Although our organisation operates two social and educational centres, the volunteer position advertised is based exclusively at one center. All accommodation, daily activities, supervision, and volunteer coordination take place at this centre.

Some of the projects described on the profile are part of the wider work of our organisation and, on rare occasions, volunteers may have the opportunity to participate in specific activities linked to other programmes. However, the host location remains at one center, and volunteers are not expected to divide their stay between two different host locations.

We will update the profile to make this clearer and avoid any confusion.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Volunteers have private bedrooms and share a bathroom and toilet between two people. There are also common areas — a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and relaxing spaces to rest or spend time together after work.

The houses are equipped with hot water, gas, and Wi-Fi, offering comfort while staying simple and authentic.

Lunch is shared with the children at the social canteen, an important moment of the day where volunteers, staff, and beneficiaries come together.

Evenings and weekends are free — volunteers can cook their own meals, explore Tarija, or take part in local activities and festivities.

We provide one meal per day, which is lunch at the centre. Volunteers share this meal with our team and the community as part of the daily experience.

Breakfast, dinner, and any additional snacks are not provided, so volunteers are responsible for arranging these meals themselves.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Volunteers have plenty of free time in the evenings and on weekends to explore, relax, or participate in cultural activities. Some suggestions include:

Discover Tarija city: enjoy local markets, cafés, restaurants, and the unique architecture.

Explore nearby natural attractions: visit the Valley of the Condors, the different waterfalls and cascades, or the Valley of La Concepción for hiking, photography, and outdoor activities.

Experience local festivals: February is a particularly festive month with Carnival celebrations, a great time to discover the vibrant Tarijeña culture.

Practice Spanish: interact with locals and staff to improve language skills while learning about the culture.

    Transport:

For nearby trips, volunteers can walk, take local buses or taxis, or use bicycles.

For longer travel, Tarija has an airport and a bus station, and is about 4–5 hours from Tupiza, the departure point for visiting the Salar de Uyuni.
