    Description

I left Australia for France with my children over 30 years ago, and have recently discovered and bought in the beautiful medieval village of St Antonin Noble Val, voted one of 'The Most Beautiful Villages in France'. Nearing the end of my career in selling country cottages in the Aveyron department further north, I can now spend more time working on the slow restoration of two XVI° Century houses in the centre of the village. I'm really looking for help and ideas from Workawayers who have had experience in building, especially in old houses.

After all this time here, I speak fluent French and am happy to translate for you when necessary, though I do think speaking some French would be more fun for you when integrating into the village. I'm also very keen to become properly fluent in Italian, so if you would like to speak Italian during your visit, that would suit me very well.

There is a very wide variety of large and small tasks to be done, and I hope you would choose those you most enjoy. Current projects include decorating a large indoor terrace area and creating a garden space there, finishing off a small kitchen in a corner of that, helping to design and install a new bathroom as part of the main bedroom, creating a "tasting room" in the existing cellar, as well as painting, plumbing, and woodwork. So there'll be bathrooms to create, bedrooms to embellish, two kitchens to finish, a cellar to organise, a green space to start, and lots more. And if you love to cook, that would be very welcome.

I am passionate about European languages and started a business teaching conversational French and English around the table with cheese and wine. I teach French to English people in the village and you are welcome to join in.

It's rather luxurious now, since your space has been completely restored and comprises a very large, sunny bedroom (c.30m²) with a private bathroom and a lovely view. There's even a workshop on the same level if you'd like to use that. The whole level is your private space.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are lots of things to do here, especially in the warmer months and many tourists come just to soak up French life. Available activities include swimming or canoeing/kayaking/white water rafting in the river nearby, horse-riding (I can drive you there), and there's a fishing club, tennis courts, paint-ball and plenty more. The central café/bar is the hub of the town, and regularly offers free concerts. Do try to be at St Antonin for at least one Sunday though, because the Sunday open-air market here is sooo good and really draws a crowd. Of course I'd be very happy if you stayed several Sundays ; I'm extremely flexible on length of stay. For more detailed information on St Antonin, please have a look at the St Antonin Noble Val Tourist Office website, where they do it far better than I ever could! Cheers, Annie

The internet in the house I live in is excellent with every room connected. It's also very quiet and conducive to quiet work.

Please know that I do not have private parking at or near my house. Your private space is extremely comfortable, so I'm hoping you would want to stay there and park your van in the designated campervan area, about five minutes walk from the house. If you would prefer to sleep in your van, that's fine too.
