Hi there and welcome to NZ. My home is in Governors Bay which is a small town of 800 people located in a very scenic part of the Banks Peninsula only 20 minutes drive from Christchurch. I have a rather large property on tree-clad section with a small amount of lawn, a vegetable garden garden and great views of the Lyttelton Harbour. I also share my home with my dog Chica (Dalmatian). I currently work two part time jobs, one is working for a charity organisation, and the other doing all sorts of work for a builder (except building :).

I am very happy to help travellers with their English, if their wish is to improve. For me and those who have stayed with me, the meal times seem to be the most enjoyable cultural exchange time. My friends and family are also often engaged with the travellers that come into my life.
Staying and working here would suit a couple who are independent (i.e. have had some life experience outside of home and school), self-motivated and having a happy, can-do attitude would be most welcomed. Volunteering hours and expectations are fair - about 4-5 hours a day, or you can also work a full day and take the next off... whatever is mutually convenient. Main tasks are weeding the garden, and also cooking.
Main tasks are weeding the garden, and also cooking. Having any building, or landscaping skills would be very helpful too. I have about 7 days help required available at this stage perhaps more depending on other projects that are still in the planning (paving, tree planting, building a carport, painting, etc).
English and a little Dutch
In exchange I can offer you good healthy meals, a very comfortable queen size bed and good sized bedroom with private bathroom/toilet, wireless internet to check emails and Facebook.
There are numerous walking tracks close to home - easy ones along the foreshore, and more challenging walks on a network of tracks in the hills. It's also close to the funky port town of Lyttelton, and en route to Akaroa a very popular destination for its history on the early settlement days of NZ.
There is a community mini bus service providing access to a public transport system in Christchurch during the weekdays, and to the Farmers Market in Lyttelton on Saturday mornings (bookings are necessary, see for timetables and fares). I make frequent trips into town; so if it works out you can join me.
Our local pub, The Governors Bay Hotel just across the road has a great atmosphere (especially for the locals on a Thurs/Friday nights) and serves a great meal too. She Universe (cafe/restaurant and chocolate factory) is next door. They sell world-class chocolate. There are no other shops or services in Governors Bay.
