    Description

    Hello

I'm a starting CSA veg farmer (U-pick system), next to our late church with the small vegs. I also have a few small fields nearby that will need maintenance now and again. I did some restoration on a vintage caravan, now comfortably housing 1 or 2 people and possibility to add one extra. It also has a gas cooking stove and electricity. Really heating it is not easy, so preferred only for spring till fall.

During winter, work also slows down and I have problems occupying myself for 25hours/week.
The shop will open somewhere this spring (aim is before April fools day 2017). And we will start with 2 half days/week. During this time, you either have time for yourselves, continue on some projects or help in the shop. Depending on interests.

Apart from the veg, I also work part time on a nature conservation project with sheep (rotational grazing). This way, you'll get access to normally no-go zones (like military bases or closed nature reserves) when you join me on this work. As it is a non profit, we also work with volunteers no problem. This are full days (normally between 8 and 10 hours) and are some distance away so part time is not really an option or you would want to take a walk in the surroundings (if possible)

For now, I still live at my parents place as is my youngest sister. We have 2 working border collies (for the sheep), a village pig and some chickens. Non of them are allowed in the house.

Depending of course on what you are looking for, we have a train station half hour walk or 10min by bike with hourly service to Antwerp and during the week in the morning to Brussels. So other cities might be visited for one day (or more).

As I have a U-pick, I also organise events on the farm (like table on the farm), meeting new people with the most diverse of back grounds. If you want to, Dutch is a possible language we can help you with, but you'll need some basics if you want to make serious progress.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Bus service toward train station, giving you access to direct train links to Antwerp, Hasselt and Brussels (this one only during the work week). Also direct bus link to Turnhout.

We have some of the best nature reserves in Belgium for insects (dragon flies and others) nearby (half hour by bike), I'm member of the local kayak club, so you can join in for some paddling.

It is pretty flat land, so a lot of bike tours, but also of road is possible.

Applications should come in at least 1 month before arrival. Last minute requests for hospitality will be ignored except if they come with an excellent CV + letter of application. 5 lines won't do the trick.

The caravan, almost south facing side, but a tree overhead, giving a sunny place to sit and not too much warmth during summer. Not winter proof at the moment.
